Yankees need to make up their minds after recent comments on Jasson Dominguez

If not now, it's literally never.

Back in late March, on the same day that Jasson Domínguez learned he wouldn't be on the New York Yankees' Opening Day roster, Yankees manager Aaron Boone made a public prediction about Domínguez. "He'll impact our club in a way this year," Boone said of the 23-year-old outfielder.

Less than three months later, Boone's prophecy is about to come true. The Yankees have no choice but for it to come true, for better or worse. With Aaron Judge set to miss at least a month or two with a fractured rib, New York needs Domínguez to step up to the plate and deliver, both literally and figuratively.

Yankees have needed Jasson Domínguez all along (they just never wanted to admit it)

It's ironic that the Yankees are suddenly in the position to need Domínguez, seeing as they've operated for multiple years with the attitude that they absolutely don't need him at all. Domínguez has "been in the conversation" for a regular MLB role for two years running, and it's never happened. The Yankees keep yanking him around. Such carelessness with his development couldn't have helped him, all while Boone and New York's leadership brand it as important character building. For a less sturdy mind than Domínguez's, this would all amount to character breaking, not building.

When Domínguez was carted off the Yankee Stadium field on May 7 after a scary injury, the tears streaming down his face hit home with every Yankees fan who has followed his journey. This wasn't just emotion about a single injury; it was emotion about years and years of toiling in the minors for a chance that had once again been delayed.

It's always being delayed, and as of 2026, quite undeservedly for Domìnguez, who has hit .303/.389/.444/.833 this year in Triple-A. With Domínguez approaching full health this week, Yankees Nation is eyeing his extended MLB experience (finally!), and yet, Boone came out and made comments on Sunday that angered everyone following this team.

Boone saying merely that it's "possible" Domínguez will be called up just continues the sorrowful trend of the Yankees jerking this kid around and expecting his development not to suffer because of it. How can you expect Domínguez to have any confidence at this point? Meanwhile, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has always operated as if Domínguez and fellow outfield prospect Spencer Jones were untouchable. Play them or trade them. You've hesitated on both avenues, and for what?

Yankees should call up Jasson Domínguez and keep him on MLB roster

Boone boiled this current, allegedly difficult, Domínguez decision down to a position logjam, suggesting that Domínguez is locked into left field because of all the prep the Yanks have done with him there recently.

If you're not willing to get the kid some right field reps for a week in Triple-A, shift gears and create some DH starts for him by resting Trent Grisham. Get creative. But whatever you do, don't go through another phase of being wishy-washy with Domínguez, especially after Anthony Volpe has quickly become unplayable once again.

He's done more than enough to deserve far better treatment, and more importantly he's in a real position to help the Yankees win games. Stand behind the player you've believed in for years and live with the results.
