Yankees legend CC Sabathia joins Knicks, Jalen Brunson fans with Pistons smack talk

We can't hear you.

The East may have theoretically run through Detroit, but that didn't prevent the Pistons from being run over before they could match up with the resurgent New York Knicks. Since the moment Karl-Anthony Towns chatted with malleable coach Mike Brown about facilitating the offense, the Knicks have powered through the NBA Playoffs in blowout fashion. The biggest complaint since late April involves the team playing too well and affording themselves a shockingly long break while Cleveland and Detroit slugged it out for the right to be overtired.

While Boston and Philly will always have a special Hatred Corner in all of our hearts, Pistons fans laughed the loudest this year as they rode their physicality to a trio of blowout wins in the regular season, riding high off a playoff series they did not win last summer. While things might be "different" this year after all, it's hardly in the way their fans intended.

Count Yankees Hall of Famer CC Sabathia among those who are sick and tired of the Knicks/Jalen Brunson disrespect, specifically the way that fan bases find out, one after another, that it's not as easy as they think to map their own superstar onto Brunson and consider the one-on-one matchup won.

"Everybody is better than Jalen Brunson 'til it's time to be better than Jalen Brunson" has been a common refrain in recent postseasons. Unfortunately for Pistons fans who got too big for their britches, their guy Cade Cunningham won't even get the chance to experience that "time," and Sabathia let everybody know how he felt about it on Sunday evening.

Eastern Conference Finals now has a Mets-Yankees rivalry angle after Cavs-Pistons

That means it's Donovan Mitchell's turn, with James Harden as his second banana. Mitchell, of course, is a local, and there's a world where the Cavs' star shooting guard had ended up a Knick instead after growing up in Westchester with a dad who worked for the ... Mets.

In fact, he signed off his press conference Sunday night with a little dig, noting, "My Mets beat the Yankees today, too" (sure did).

With the Subway Series coming to a close, it seemed likely that Mets and Yankee fans would reunite this week for the sake of New York, merging to battle Cleveland in unison. With one of their own on the other side, though, certain Mets fans may have to begrudgingly join Sabathia on this one, rooting against the Mets so that their on-court rival's mood will dip at an opportune time. It's tough enough to be better than Jalen Brunson without a baseball cloud hanging over you like a Bo Bichette contract.
