While the New York Yankees have spent this offseason — both in free agency and via trade — they still have a lot of money locked up that they'd love to get rid of. Heck, they're still paying Aaron Hicks in 2025. Nightmare.

One of the players who has become the topic of conversation regarding a salary dump is Marcus Stroman, who started off 2024 hot after signing his two-year, $38.5 million contract. He ended up meeting his vesting option to guarantee his 2026 salary of $18 million.

But Stroman's 30 games and 154 2/3 innings weren't everything the Yankees were hoping for. A stellar first half then turned into a sideways second half, leading to Stroman being non-participatory come playoff time.

The right-hander was 7-4 with a 3.51 ERA in 19 first half starts, then 3-5 with a 5.98 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) the rest of the way. He got shelled at Yankee Stadium to the tune of 15 home runs in 16 starts. He couldn't be trusted.

Not to mention, Stroman, a guy who pitches to contact, had an unreliable defense behind him, which exacerbated the Yankees' problems and made him look a little bit worse than he actually was.

So what's the solution? He's not getting DFA'd, and a trade would be relatively difficult to work out, especially if the market's been this quiet so far. However, one Yankees insider feels otherwise.

Pete Caldera of NorthJersey.com dropped his 25 Yankees predictions for 2025 and the second one featured a Stroman trade that was actually kind of funny:

"Seeking to unload Marcus Stroman’s $18 million contract for ’25, GM Brian Cashman trades the right-hander back to the willing-to-spend Toronto Blue Jays for two lottery pick prospects."

Could Yankees really offload Marcus Stroman's entire contract in trade to Blue Jays?

The Blue Jays, who have been hurling themselves at every free agent but have failed to land a single one, traded for Andres Giménez this offseason. They need pitching, too, after Corbin Burnes turned them down, but Stroman feels like the consolation prize's consolation prize here. He'll cost money, he's not entirely reliable as someone who can pitch every fifth day, and he's a former Blue Jay that was traded away back in 2019 so Toronto could avoid paying him more money when the time came.

And now they're going to help the Yankees out by eating $36.5 million in salary while importing a distressed asset that will not help their chances of contending? This seems ... perfect. Absolutely perfect. It now needs to happen.

In Pete we trust.
