Winning cures everything. As the New York Yankees found out Tuesday night when Ben Rice broke a ninth-inning tie with a massive home run and Devin Williams locked down the save against a Blue Jays team that is swiftly becoming their nemesis, the horrific lows of the sixth and seventh inning were immediately bleached from memory.
But that didn't make all the pain go away ... or did it?
This game was tied in the top of the sixth after some Anthony Volpe defensive chicanery, and though Aaron Judge tried to valiantly gun down the tying run at the plate, he came up slightly short. One inning later, Judge galloped deep into the right field corner to record the second out of the frame, but was caught plainly wincing after tossing the ball back to the infield.
Did he tweak something on the cannon the previous inning? Was it an awkward throw in the seventh? Was it the elbow? Wrist? Oblique? Nobody knew, or wanted to, but the algebraic equation of blown lead + poor defense + Judge grimace (the bad kind, not the Mets' good luck charm) equaled a harrowing hour. Judge's final plate appearance of the game didn't give us any clues, either; he was intentionally walked by the Jays' John Schneider.
One thrilling victory later, and Judge's pain was the furthest thing from our collective mind - just kidding. Every panic-stricken soul pocketed their nerves and bundled them until the lineup was released about three hours before Wednesday's game. Judge was penciled in at DH (Rafael Devers' nightmare), which was both encouraging and potentially indicative of something nagging (ahead of Thursday's off day).
According to Aaron Boone, this was pre-planned, and Judge's pained expression was due to a "one-off" throw that "didn't feel great". Boone "thinks" Judge is alright. Clearly, he's not injured enough to surrender any at-bats. But we ... unfortunately don't know much more today than we did yesterday.
Aaron Boone said Judge's reaction was "just probably a throw that didn't feel great." He added: "I think it's a one-off. He's not DHing because of that. I think he's all right." https://t.co/ZBbLhjxZD7

Aaron Judge DHing one day after wincing during New York Yankees' win over Toronto Blue Jays
The replies to this particular Boone quote aren't kind; fans remain skeptical of Judge's overall health, especially while he's carrying an 0-fer in the series.
In terms of the "panic meter," we're a tick or two higher than when Volpe beaned Judge in the temple with a wayward throw just before the break.
Yeah no one believes this goober. He’s done nothing but lie to us about injuries for 8 years. Come on bro.

More logical fans pointed out that the Yankees don't like Judge playing three consecutive games on Toronto's wonky turf, with or without a grimace baked in.
Those fans are correct.
Typically they don’t let him play on turf every game, but still a concern for the track record of lying about injuries

That said, the next step is just to see him make it through Wednesday's game without incident - and a solid line drive wouldn't hurt.
The Yankees are off on Thursday night before resuming play in the Bronx against Ranger Suarez, Zack Wheeler and the Phillies. Welp. Get well soon.
