Yankees fans get mixed signals with latest Giancarlo Stanton injury update

Earlier this week, Giancarlo Stanton received the third round of platelet-rich plasma injections in his injured elbows as he attempts to avoid season-ending surgery and make an impact for the New York Yankees in 2025.

But, admittedly, it's not looking good. Every subsequent update on his status has been worse than the last, so it's hard to foreshadow an optimistic outcome ... and that brings us to what was reported Thursday night.

Stanton is reportedly dealing with a "chronic" calf issue as well. Lower body injuries have plagued him during his tenure with the Yankees, and calf injuries have been a notable contributor to him missing time. He's also been limited with hamstring, quad and Achilles maladies, so this shouldn't necessarily come as a surprise.

It's just another one of those things where Yankees fans can't help but wonder if this modern era ia fully cursed. How is Stanton, who was seemingly enjoying an offseason of rest after an arduous 2024 season, now all of a sudden laid up with three different injuries?

At this point, most are envisioning the 2025 season without him and Gerrit Cole just for the sake of coping. Factoring Stanton into any plans, only to learn he'll be out of the year once that next heinous update rolls around, would be devastating for morale.

Giancarlo Stanton Injury: Yankees get more bad news (but some good news)

That's why we'll take this update from Jon Heyman of the New York Post with a grain of salt. Heyman was the first to reveal the calf issue, but then he noted an "optimistic" return date for Stanton would be Memorial Day. Wait ... what?

Are the PRP injections working? Does this mean we have a timetable for Stanton being able to swing a bat (he hasn't in two full months) again? Though Aaron Boone last said he had hoped taking it slow with Stanton would benefit the Yankees "over the long haul" in 2025, there's been absolutely no clarity on what that might mean.

There still seems to be a holding pattern with how the team will move forward with the star slugger, but now fans are wondering how the reported Memorial Day timeline came to be. That feels like a best-case scenario, if you ask us.

Perhaps the Yankees are being extra careful about revealing information because they know how delicate the situation is. But, yeah, it's hard to take anything from this somewhat promising return timeline with another injury in the mix.
