New York Yankees spring training has unofficially begun in Tampa, FL, as pitchers, catchers, and a random selection of position players reported before the official Tuesday date. Everyone from Aaron Judge to Jazz Chisholm to Cody Bellinger was spotted on the field Monday, disseminated to the masses via a phenomenon that can only be called Beat Writer Photos.
Our beautiful game's beat writers are to thank for supplying the content that you crave. I'm talking zoomed-in photos from 200 feet away that will have you thinking, "Is Aaron Judge furious at Paul Goldschmidt, or merely walking away, facing the opposite direction?" We're looking at well-laid-out snapshots of the palm trees that guard the entrance to Steinbrenner Field — once a day for 40 days until the season begins.
And, yes, of course, that means video footage from way-too-far away is on the docket, too; bonus points if it features a brand new Yankee doing work in pinstripes/navy blues for the very first time.
You saw Max Fried rock the pearly white No. 54 at his introductory press conference in December. Now, watch him toss BP from the mound for the first time with his Yankees teammates, courtesy of Greg Joyce of the New York Post.

Yankees' Max Fried appears in uniform from beyond the outfield fence (?) at spring training
He's not wearing a jersey. He's going from the windup, but not at full speed. Whipping wind has turned the camera's speakers to dust, except for the soothing sounds of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition". Is that coming from the back field's PA system, or a Honda Accord with its windows down on the Dale Mabry Highway? Who can say? Are we sure this is Fried? Could be Andy Pettitte. Could be Bill "Spaceman" Lee. Could be a piece of navy blue masking tape waving in the wind that accidentally attached itself to the iPhone's lens. Either way, we're glad to be looking at it.
The only real scoops still to come this week involve Marcus Stroman's arrival, if he shows up at all. What throwback clothing will he be wearing? What facial expression will he be sporting? It's probably in everyone's best interest for Stroman to be photographed from closer proximity.
We'll take Fried, Goldschmidt and Bellinger clips from however far away we can get them, though, as long as the photographer's standing in the same zip code.
