If you circled the date on your calendar when Juan Soto was expected to face the New York Yankees in spring training, then congratulations: you are a psycho! For those of us that are invested but not quite on that level, we're ready for the Subway Series in mid-May.
Nonetheless, on Monday, the Yankees and Mets faced off at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, FL, in what marks one of the last games of the spring, and Bomber fans made sure Soto heard their displeasure over what had happened in the offseason.
Apparently, Yankees fans either outnumbered Mets fans or had much more raucous personnel in attendance, because Soto was boo'ed to the high heavens when he stepped up to the plate for his first at-bat of the game.
Yankees fans loved Soto during his lone year with the team in 2024 after Brian Cashman swung a trade to import him from the Padres, but Soto hit free agency in November and opted for a larger contract with the Mets, who amended their offer at the last minute to reportedly sway him.

Yankees vs Mets spring training: Juan Soto booed by fans in attendance
That's ... shockingly loud. We know there are a ton of Yankees fans in Florida, but we had no idea they were this passionate (and concentrated) in Port St. Lucie.
Soto's been in the news this week after commenting on why he chose the Yankees over the Mets and talking about his relationship with Aaron Judge. Yankees fans have a lot to say over Soto's preference for Queens, which many believe were a result of the extra $45 million (and perks) Cohen gave him. Soto, however, said it was a "family decision" and that he felt the Mets were better set up for long-term success.
If you ask us, we aren't heading to spring training games to heckle former players, but this moment perhaps just gave us an incredible preview of what the regular season will be like when the Mets travel to the Bronx for their series from May 16-18. The Yankees will then head to Citi Field July 4-6 for the second (and final) series between the two in 2025.
Soto is never one to shy away from adversity. He always responds in big moments and can tune out the noise. But he's awoken a beast unlike any other, and the vitriol of Yankees fans will be a completely new challenge for the $765 million man.
