The Knicks historic, unforgivable loss might have overshadowed the Yankees' big moment on Wednesday night, but the 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers deserves more attention from New York fans (even if you're still reeling from Tyrese Haliburton's game-tying shot bouncing 45 feet in the air before it went in at the buzzer).
For the third time in a week, the Yankees pulled away with another clutch victory. They did it last Wednesday against the Mariners, Sunday against the Mets, and then ruined a former Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom's night on Wednesday.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Yanks got another timely home run from Cody Bellinger, whose current hot streak has him as one of the best hitters in the league right now. His solo homer off deGrom made it a 3-2 game.
New York then abused the Rangers' bullpen. They put traffic on the bases in the eighth and Aaron Judge delivered with a two-out RBI single to tie it up. Why they didn't intentionally walk him, we'll never know!
Then came the bottom of the ninth as Jasson Dominguez stepped into the box after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. He demolished an 85 MPH garbage slider 400 feet into the right field seats. Game over. Comeback complete. Five games up in the AL East.

Yankees' epic comeback, Jasson Dominguez walk-off taught fans two important things
We're nearly two months into the 2025 season and it's fair to say the Yankees have been discovering themselves with a new-look roster after Juan Soto's departure. At this point, we can definitively say they might be finding some sort of clutch gene.
Bellinger has led the charge in that department. Judge has quietly been among the best in such situations as he continues to bat over .400. Paul Goldschmidt has been a revelation in almost every way imaginable. Trent Grisham is ... we don't know how he's still doing this.
Cody Bellinger was hitting .175 on the season with a season-low .506 OPS on April 19.

So, for one, the Yankees might be revealing that they can come through in such situations that have held them back the last five or so years.
Secondly, there's Dominguez, who is having a complicated rookie season. The numbers aren't great. The defense still isn't there. But he's managed to put his stamp on a number of key moments this year. His bases-clearing double against the Royals in April notched the Yankees a win. His three-homer, seven-RBI game against the A's was one of the most impressive performances from any player in MLB this season. And his electrifying home run on Wednesday — which was the Yankees' first walk-off blast in 974 days — notched another impressive accomplishment.
The Yankees' top prospects have left a lot to be desired. Anthony Volpe's offense still isn't taking the next step. Austin Wells is really having a poor year. Oswald Peraza is not good. Only Ben Rice has managed to consistently deliver, and he doesn't even have a full-time position on defense.
But Dominguez refuses to fade into the background, and his star potential continues to shine sporadically throughout his first full season in the Bronx. The Yankees are 29-19 and they have a ton of young talent just waiting to break through. If that happens, we're looking at an absolute wagon.
