Yankees criticism shows how quickly Red Sox fans forget about their own problems

Boston supporters are merely projecting their own franchise's faults with this one.

The New York Yankees are bound to be trolled by Boston Red Sox fans and players alike for the rest of eternity.

Red Sox supporters surely took center stage in the latest hate-fest directed at Aaron Judge during the World Baseball Classic (one of the various elements that made Team USA's WBC performance unwatchable).

Now, the gremlins of Red Sox Twitter are apparently attacking the Yankees for demoting Jasson Dominguez. Before moving forward, it's worth acknowledging that not all Red Sox fans are like this. This is one of the most knowledgeable fanbases in the bigs. But whoever among Red Sox Nation is trying to mock the Yankees for the Dominguez decision has no idea how hypocritical they are being.

Red Sox fans trolling Yankees over Jasson Dominguez are ignoring their own Kristian Campbell issues

Boston's undeniable mishandling of Kristian Campbell's development over the past calendar year is a far more grevious offense than anything anyone can point to with the Yanks' handling of Dominguez.

Campbell was promoted far too early (while Roman Anthony remained in the minors for far too long), and once he reached the majors, the Red Sox completely messed with his head by throwing three or four different defensive assignments on his plate rather than just letting the kid continue to rake, as he did in the first month.

Campbell went ice cold by May and was sent back down at the start of the summer to Triple-A, where he's remained since (he did not make Boston's Opening Day roster).

The Red Sox also rushed to sign Campbell to a $60 million extension last season (before any of his struggles surfaced), a decision which any Yankees haters/Dominguez mockers are being forced to acknowledge in the gloriously terrible symposium that is Twitter/X.

Meanwhile, the Yankees haven't botched Dominguez's development in this sort of fashion; they've just "failed" to create room for him on the big boy roster, if that can be called a failure. In a sense, it certainly can, especially if you disagreed with Brian Cashman's decision to extend a qualifying offer to Trent Grisham, or with the organization's more recent head-scratcher of carrying Randal Grichuk on the roster instead of Dominguez (a righty bat, we get it, but Grichuk's been terrible, and Jasson's been really good lately).

Could the Yankees have more smoothly developed Dominguez thus far? Sure, but that certainly doesn't give Red Sox fans a logical path to mock the ordeal, especially given Boston's recent history of prospect mismanagement.

Ah, the old Red Sox-Yankees rivalry will never die, will it? It takes all shapes and sizes, and this offseason, the rivalry's been unfortunately cringey and tame (though ever present). We had Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras pretending to hate the Yankees and/or lying about it, and now we have the Yanks receiving senseless flak on account of Dominguez. Thankfully, the regular season begins in just a few days, and the real games will soon be underway.
