You only get one chance to make a first impression, and luckily, New York Yankees prospect Eric Reyzelman produced one with gusto last summer. The right-hander out of LSU struck out 63 men in 38 2/3 innings across three levels, mostly at Double-A Somerset, in 2024, finishing the year with a 1.16 ERA.

That made him one of our spring training non-roster invitees to watch by a wide margin; if it's not this summer, Reyzelman certainly has a serious chance to make an impact on the 2026 Yankees bullpen. Unfortunately, his camp experience began with a day that sounds more like an absolute sleepaway camp nightmare.

On Wednesday, Reyzelman suffered an extreme allergic reaction to peanut products, and was kept in a local hospital overnight for observation.

He returned to camp on Thursday in "good spirits" after being discharged. He reportedly ran with the team, but will wait to resume throwing until Friday.

Speaking with the media in the aftermath, Reyzelman went out of his way to graciously thank the Yankees' training staff, noting he was, "Very grateful. They took really, really good care of me.”

The right-hander should now be cleared to resume his attempt to open some significant eyes this February and March, especially when game action begins on Feb. 21. Two potential bullpen spots remain up for grabs with the MLB club, as Jake Cousins is in the midst of a no throw while battling an elbow strain, and Clayton Beeter reported to camp while recovering from shoulder troubles. Jonathan Loaisiga is also out until May at the earliest, which was known when he agreed to return to the Yankees.

Reyzelman missed "nearly all" of the 2023 campaign with a back injury, but recovered in time to begin his 2024 season in a May 28 rehab appearance in the Florida Complex League. From that point forward, he did nothing but dominate, zipping upwards across three levels.

The worst is (thankfully) behind Reyzelman now, who can take all the time he needs to re-acclimate to an environment that already likely seemed pretty intimidating before all this occurred.
