Yankees-Blue Jays ALDS just got hit with the worst announcers possible

Oh, boy, Christmas came early this year!

Good news, New York Yankees fans! Your ALDS series against the Toronto Blue Jays was chosen as the marquee matchup this weekend.

Bad news? TBS and Fox have switched allegiances this postseason, and the Fox/FS1 crew will cover the American League playoffs instead of the National League. That means — you guessed it! — a color commentator who despises the Yankees will be calling the next round of Yankee games.

Usually, you have to wait all the way 'til the World Series to receive the gift of John Smoltz slobbering all over the Yankees' opponent, criticizing New York's every move, and minimizing their accomplishments. What a joy to be able to listen to that blather two whole rounds early!

Who knows if Adam Amin would be any more even-handed? One thing we do know, though, is that Adam Amin didn't have his MLB career and legacy ruined by the Yankees in 1996, 1999, and the summer of 2009, when he tried to hang on with the Red Sox and got bashed one last time in the Bronx.

Yankees fans stuck with John Smoltz on the call for ALDS vs. Blue Jays

Almost as bad as when Red Sox veteran Dennis Eckersley's unbiased national call of an Aaron Judge home run in the playoffs was, "What a nightmare." Never forget.

This also means — cover your ears — that if the Yankees reverse another regular-season trend and advance past the Blue Jays, they'll get Smoltz again for the ALCS, then once more for the World Series if they go all the way. Worse things have happened than being forced to contend with a malevolent force while laughing all the way to a title, but it's still a pretty big downer!

We don't blame Smoltz for despising New York. They foiled him at nearly every turn during his professional career. It's just funny that, after years of fans claiming that various announcing booths were biased against them, from Tim McCarver to Joe Morgan ... this one actually is. Smoltz would prefer the Yankees lose. You can hear it dripping from every sentence. And I get it! I don't want to call any Red Sox games, personally. And I've never even played the game.

Hopefully, cueing up Dave Sims while muting the television will suffice. The Yankees dominating would go a long way, too.
