The New York Yankees got the last laugh in Sunday's Subway Series showdown, evening the season set with the Mets at three games apiece after squelching several late rallies. While Cody Bellinger and Max Fried helped cover the Bombers in glory, it's safe to say Anthony Volpe didn't exactly get the redemption arc he was hoping for. Instead, his weekend ended in virality for all the wrong reasons.
After the series finale concluded, a video emerged on TikTok that appeared to show Volpe's father using rather inappropriate language to scold a Mets fan for taking aim at his son.
There's no super kind way to say this, but ... Volpe's taken a lot of verbal abuse lately from both Mets and Yankees fans as his struggles have spiraled. If Volpe's father heard someone taking aim at his son's skills on Sunday, it can't have been the first time. It stands to reason that something was said that crossed a particular line that Volpe Sr. hadn't yet confronted in a previous exchange.
That said, all we have is the back half of the video, where the proud father berates the Mets fan heckler while another "kind" citizen sarcastically says, "Your son is the best" (which honestly might've made me even madder in a similar scenario).
Anthony Volpe’s dad was gonna beat this guy up.

Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe's dad defended his son against encroaching Mets fan in bizarre video
Volpe's turbulent on-field weekend included another overmatched strikeout with RISP late in Sunday's game, a home run to cut Saturday's deficit that we wish had been more important, and an errant between-innings throw that nailed Aaron Judge in the head (which can't be explained).
Things would be so much easier for Yankee fans if Volpe could avoid the kind of all-encompassing slumps that have become far too common during his first 2.5 years in the game. His current quagmire has taken aim at his defensive chops, too.
Everything seems to be up for grabs now as Volpe struggles to adjust to the spotlight, failing to turn a corner after starring in 2024's postseason. That can be too much for a father to bear, especially because Yankee fans have never really seen the prince who was promised.
The last time we saw this much vitriol between a Yankees family member and the "adoring " public, it was IKF's father raging at an incredibly inappropriate series of social media hoaxes. Ironically, Kiner-Falefa may be called upon again at this year's deadline to help caddy for Volpe.
