After 20 full years of trying to figure out how to counteract Boston's aggravating sports aura, the Yankees may finally have found the key: employ Boston dudes on your roster and watch the Commonwealth's brains melt and spill out of their ears every time they play a role in defeating the Red Sox.

Cam Schlittler's mere existence sent Boston fans to a very strange place last October, rallying to the ball to harass his mother for the horrific thought crime of supporting her son. If he'd folded in Game 3 of the Wild Card playoffs, that would've been a permanent feather in their cap. Instead, he shoved in historic fashion, and it knotted their brain stems in ways that even our most prominent historians will never be able to untangle.

Schlittler hopped online to talk his mess after getting the better of his homeland, but rest assured he did not start it. He thought he'd ended it, but based on the furor surrounding his Fenway debut, he was wrong. Thankfully, he shoved again, so this insane battle is both A) still ongoing and B) his to win.

Through all the mess, Schlittler is still a hilariously proud Bostonian. He's a Bruins fan. He changed his Twitter banner photo to the TD Garden as soon as the Yankees were eliminated last October. It's funny, as long as your brain isn't chowder. And while hopping on the plane to Milwaukee in casual wear on Thursday, Schlittler celebrated another Yankees series win while paying tribute to the GOAT, Tom Brady.

There are worse heroes to have than Brady if you're a kid raised in Boston in the aughts. For example, Mike Vrabel!

All of a sudden, Schlittler's not the kid on the roster anymore. He's playoff-tested and mother approved. This weekend, the Yankees will usher a new kid on the block in Spencer Jones up to the big-league roster, and Schlittler will be a large part of taking the debut pressure off him.

The Brewers are sending Jacob Misiorowski and Kyle Harrison to the mound in this three-game set, while the Yankees will counter with Max Fried in the opener, followed by Schlittler and Carlos Rodón in his 2026 debut. After the starting rotation carried things early, the offense has taken the ball in equal parts recently, creating a 2007 Patriots-like combination that's been tough to catch flat-footed. If it's not Brady and Randy Moss, it's Asante Samuel and Junior Seau.

Of course, that team's hubris eventually came back to get them. It's CS38's job, along with the rest of his teammates, to make certain they don't slip even once. This weekend is another business trip, and a fun chance for the Yankees to prove their mettle in another showcase against top arms and a perceived threat.
