The New York Yankees were dealt a body blow when right-hander Clarke Schmidt went down early in his Friday night start against the Toronto Blue Jays. He'll more than likely need Tommy John surgery, which will knock him out for the remainder of 2025 and the majority, if not all, of the 2026 season.

It's fair for the Yankees to be devastated by this news, especially on the heels of Schmidt's nearly 30-inning scoreless streak. Criticize the team all you want, but at least they went high-upside with their immediate replacement: Triple-A flamethrower Cam Schlittler, a mid-round pick from Northeastern University who's burst onto the scene, steadily climbing the ladder over the past two years. This season, he's struck out 99 men in 76 2/3 innings, maintaining a 2.82 ERA in 15 outings split between Somerset and Scranton.

Is Schlittler the trade deadline solution to the Yankees' rotation woes? There's only one way to find out, and the Yankees took the correct road here rather than trying Allan Winans as another stopgap.

Schlittler's MLB debut will come on Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners, so get your snacks ready, sit down on the couch and ... don't turn on YES Network. It's not on there.

Here's how to watch Yankees-Mariners on Amazon Prime Video for Cam Schlittler's MLB Debut

Here's everything fans need to know to catch tonight's game on Prime, the first Yankees contest on the platform since ... last Wednesday vs. Toronto:

  • Date: Weds., July 9, 2025
  • Game Time: 7:05 PM ET
  • Location: Bronx, NY
  • Stadium: Yankee Stadium
  • Local TV Channel: Not Available
  • National TV Channel: Amazon Prime Video
  • Live Stream: Amazon Prime Video

The stream comes free with any Amazon Prime account, and it's simple to sign up. The only frustrating thing is the exclusivity; your local sports bar may have no idea how to handle this, meaning a key market (drunks) will be missing out entirely on the opportunity to watch Schlittler. Without observing his first start keenly, how will they ever figure out what to heckle him about later?

This is the 13th of 21 Yankees games to stream exclusively on Prime this season, but the first featuring a hotshot rookie's MLB debut. Hopefully, Schlittler uses his high-90s heater to dominate, and we can all enjoy the highlights afterward.
