Internships
Yanks Go Yard is offering opportunities for journalism and social media students during the spring and summer of 2014. We are looking for interns to work for our site in our social media department, as well as our news desk for up and coming writers! If one or both of these opportunities interests you or someone you know, keep reading!
Social Media Intern:
A successful candidate will be operating and updating our various social media accounts: Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Google+, Reddit, and Buffer App, continually promoting and providing updates from our site. Candidates will be required to work 4-6 hour shifts, multiple days per week, and rotate weekend shift. We are willing, if provided the appropriate information and contact, provide assistance and verification for work performed for any available college or university internship credits that may be available through candidate’s post-secondary institution. This internship is unpaid.
Probationary Staff Writer (News Desk):
The successful candidate for this internship position will be available to write 7 days per week, on little to no notice, depending on the news cycle and the importance of the subject content. The News Desk is constantly providing clean, concise updated news stories and content for the web site, and can also have news topics assigned from a team leader, with the expectation of creating a viable draft of assigned work shortly after having topic assigned. The qualities of the probationary staff writer will include:
- High-quality writing
- Experience writing on a deadline
- The ability to take direction and criticism from editors
- Previous sports or advanced writing experience
- Dedication to the team-first mentality
Similar to the social media internship position, if internship credits are available for the successful candidate through their post-secondary institution of learning, we will assist the candidate in acquiring the documentation necessary to validate team service through our program. The probationary staff writer’s internship position is unpaid.
