Rafael Devers hit his last home run as a member of the Boston Red Sox on Sunday against the New York Yankees. Hope the folks in Boston enjoyed that one! You'll NEVER see it again! Sorry, we forgot about the sweep already.

The Red Sox traded Devers to the San Francisco Giants just hours after they notched their third straight win over the Yankees. New York was feeling so much pain after their failure for the third straight day. Self-inflicted wounds cost the Yankees every single game at Fenway this weekend.

Now? Couldn't care less. The man who absolutely destroys the Yankees is no longer in their backyard. Gerrit Cole's daddy is in the National League. Red Sox fans just lost so much of their leverage over the Yankees.

Boston betrayed its entire fanbase by blindsiding them with this move. Devers was their franchise player ever since Mookie Betts was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers before the 2020 season. And they did it again. They prioritized Alex Bregman, who has been with the team for six months.

And in case anybody was worried about the Red Sox making a playoff run at the Yankees' expense, well, that just took a big hit on Sunday evening.

Not only that, but Devers is out of the American League. The Yankees' road through the AL playoffs just got that much easier. The slugger hit .269 with an .874 OPS, 31 home runs and 78 RBI across 119 games against the Bombers.

He quite literally could not be further away from New York at this point. It's unclear when he'll suit up for the Giants, but San Francisco is currently on Sunday Night Baseball against the LA Dodgers and star shortstop Willy Adames is already excited about the move.

The Yankees might be licking their wounds after giving away another series against their chief rival, but Craig Breslow just gave New York fans the greatest get out of jail free card of all time. For years, Yankees fans would randomly wake up in a cold sweat thinking of Devers ruining their lives, and now they'll just have to worry about ... Trevor Story, who's apparently now one of the best hitters in MLB ever since playing against New York.

The Red Sox are still the most successful team of the modern era. They have the most World Series titles since 2000. But man, John Henry trading two generational players in the span of five years to completely save the Yankees' bacon will go down in history. Now we just need New York to bring home a championship to make it all worthwhile.
