Good news: the Yankees will not be experiencing a rain delay on Tuesday night against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim!
Bad news: that's because the game has been bagged already, with an announcement coming just after 3:30 PM EST.
In lieu of posting a lineup, the Yankees somehow found a way to make their fans even angrier, axing the first of three contests between New York and LAA, preemptively moving the series opener to 4:05 PM on Wednesday afternoon.
That'll form a straight doubleheader leading into the previously scheduled "7:05 PM" game. Although ... typically, you'll often see rescheduled games moved to 1:05 PM the next day. The fact that MLB and the Yankees have already opted for 4:05 PM here, at the earliest, seems to indicate significant predicted rainfall, which may or may not end in time to get two games in Wednesday, either.
Yankees Weather: Angels series opener rained out Tuesday, full details
If you had tickets for Tuesday's game, you will unfortunately (or fortunately?) not be able to attend the opening game of Wednesday's newly scheduled doubleheader.
It will be a single-admission affair, and you can exchange your Tuesday tickets for a comparable future game.
Whenever this series does begin, the Yankees will have to deal with young Angels standouts Logan O'Hoppe and Zach Neto, both of whom have found their footing in recent weeks. New York's pitching probables for this three-game set initially included Luis Gil, Nestor Cortes Jr., and Marcus Stroman. Now, after the announcement of the initial postponement, MLB projected Cortes Jr. to face off with Carson Fulmer of the Angels to open the series, followed by "TBD" in Game 2 and Stroman vs. Angels All-Star Tyler Anderson to wrap things up.
Boone, defying the internet, tabbed Luis Gil for the opener and Will Warren as the 27th man for Game 2 Wednesday night, as told to the gathered media.
Not to spook you, though, but this is likely not the last time that Mother Nature messes with this series, given the remnants of the storm that tormented Floridians and Georgians over the weekend making its way up the coast.
Stay tuned for any further updates on when these two teams can get underway, as the Yankees ride somewhat of a heater into the week's action (7-1 in their past eight games), and also get a much-needed bullpen reset ahead of a depth-testing doubleheader.
