The Yankees couldn't get going on Monday against the Minnesota Twins in the first of a three game series on the road, losing 6-1, but now will hand the ball to stalwart Nestor Cortes in hopes of limiting the Twins offense.
The left-handed Cortes has been a stud this season and will look to keep rolling against a middling Twins offense that has struggled against lefties. However, the Twins will have emerging star in second-year pro Joe Ryan to try and slow down Aaron Judge and the Yanks lineup.
How should we bet this matchup? Let's first check out the odds:
Yankees vs. Twins odds, run line and total
Yankees vs. Twins prediction and pick
This should be a strong matchup for Cortes, as the Twins have been helpless against southpaws this season, hitting just .203 against left handed pitching, 27th in the big leagues. It won't get easier against Cortes, who has been on point this season with a 3.09 ERA, while limiting his walks to below two per nine innings for the first time in his career.
However, don't sleep on Ryan against a Yankees lineup that has struggled to string together hits this season. Ryan has a 3.24 ERA in his second year in the bigs, striking out more than 10 batters per nine innings, and is showcasing pinpoint control by limiting walks to below two per nine innings as well.
The Yankees have pop in the lineup with Aaron Judge in the middle and Anthony Volpe rounding into form and looking more like the favorite to win AL Rookie of the Year in recent days, but as a whole, the team is 27th in batting average at just .225 on the year. It hasn't connected just yet with the Yanks lineup, and I expect another low scoring output from the Bronx Bombers' lineup.
Give me the under for the second straight game between these two AL teams.
