Yankees vs. Dodgers prediction and odds for Friday, June 2 (New York undervalued)
The Yankees west coast road trip continues in Los Angeles against the Dodgers on Friday night in a high level pitching matchup.
New York will send out Luis Severino, who is starting to look like the All-Star he once was before injuries plagued his career, to face Clayton Kershaw, who is also having a strong season. Severino will look to shut down the Dodgers offense that is playing its best baseball of late, but can Aaron Judge continue his MVP push against Kershaw and Los Angeles?
Let's break down the marquee matchup of this weekend:
Yankees vs. Dodgers odds, run line and total
Yankees vs. Dodgers prediction and pick
Finally healthy again, we are seeing why the Yankees remain so high on the right hander Severino. He has looked electric in his first two starts this season, allowing only two earned runs with an xERA of 2.32. He's facing a Dodgers lineup that is the best in baseball over the last 15 days in terms of OPS, but with his command in mid-season form, I give him the edge on the mound.
Meanwhile, Kershaw is starting to slow down after an incredible start to the season. He hasn't been able to pitch more than five innings in his last two starts, allowing four earned runs in each as his strikeout metrics have dwindled.
The Yankees offense is coming alive at the plate, hitting .252 over the last two weeks and will look to push Kershaw out of this game early and get to the Dodgers bullpen that is bottom five in ERA. Even if Severino has trouble on the mound, he is backed by the best bullpen in baseball in terms of ERA.
This game shakes out more like a pick 'em rather than a decisive difference between the two teams. I'll grab the Yankees at an underdog price.
