Things couldn't have gone much better for the New York Yankees on Wednesday night, as starter Domingo German threw the 24th perfect game in MLB history in an 11-0 Yankees win.
The win is certainly a huge momentum builder for the Yankees, but can it help them turn around what has been a pretty slow start to the season?
That’s what the team is hoping to do in the series finale against the Oakland Athletics with Clarke Schmidt on the mound. The young righty is 2-6 with a 4.32 ERA this season.
He will take on Hogan Harris, who will either get the start or be used after an opener for Oakland.
Let’s dive into the odds and my best bet for Thursday’s contest:
Yankees vs. Athletics odds, run line and total
Yankees vs. Athletics prediction and pick
There’s one trend that has been money for the Yankees since Aaron Judge got hurt, and that’s betting the UNDER.
Even with last night’s win (and the OVER hitting), New York is 14-5-1 on the UNDER in its last 20 games without Judge.
It’s going to be tough to ask the team that is dead last in MLB in OPS over the last 30 days to score double-digit runs again, and the A’s are fresh off of being on the losing end of a perfect game!
Schmidt got off to a slow start in 2023, but he’s really turned things around as of late.
In his last seven starts, Schmidt has a 2.19 ERA, giving up two or fewer runs in six of those outings. Somehow, the Yankees have gone 1-6 in those contests.
Because of that, I’ll gladly take the UNDER even though Harris comes into this game with a 4.91 ERA. New York had scored just 11 runs in its previous five games before yesterday’s outburst, so I’m not sold on the Yankees teeing off again this afternoon.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
