Yankees spring training schedule 2023: Teams, Dates & How to Watch
Somehow, some way, pitchers and catchers are already nearing their report date for 2023 MLB spring training, even though it still feels like yesterday when the Yankees' season ended too early -- and even more recently than yesterday when the whole Arson Judge debacle went down (and quickly corrected itself).
Still, it's true! The World Baseball Classic has nearly arrived. Spring Training is on our doorstep. The equipment trucks are being loaded. The players are working out at team facilities of their own accord. Baseball is HERE! And it's time to watch spring action (primarily against the Phillies, Pirates and Jays, and occasionally against the Red Sox and Braves), and overreact to the bad things like overreacting's going out of style.
After all, it's been a while without baseball. If Gerrit Cole gets shelled by the Tigers, it's only natural to forget this doesn't count (and also forget what it looks like when he dominates). When a 12th-round rookie you've never heard of strikes out the side on March 8, it's fair to lobby Aaron Boone to bring him into a tie game in mid-April (sorry to Deivi Garcia and all the other mirages). And when a spring lineup stinks, it's easy to forget that half the starters literally stayed home that day.
So, prepare yourselves. Here are the spring training dates to watch. And remember: if a Yankees pitcher gets his butt kicked against the Phillies in Clearwater, the Phillies are actually good now. They figured it out. That might be more in line with reality.
