The New York Yankees' 40-man roster is full, and while some might argue there remains room for upgrades, it's likely the front office will see what this collection of players can do before moving mountains to make an impact move. Spring training is here. Time to see what we've got.
The starting rotation technically has six capable arms. The bullpen's hierarchy is unclear, but there are enough bodies. The outfield has more talent and depth than we can remember. The infield has the talent, but will it all come together? And don't get us started on the catchers. There are still too many of them.
Nonetheless, one aspect of the roster fans will need to pay close attention to is who has minor-league options remaining. The Yankees particularly utilize them with the pitching staff, shuttling guys to and from Scranton to ensure the bullpen gets enough rest (but, somehow, it never does).
In case of emergency, there are a number of players on the active roster that still have minor-league options, so if all goes south, the Yankees will at least have the chance to make a tough decision to fix things.
Let's hope it doesn't get to that point, though. All we want from our minor-league options is flexibility so guys can shuffle in and out and get the time/experience they need.
