Yankees expediting 2024 plan with shocking Jasson Dominguez promotion to MLB
It's officially Jasson Dominguez time in the Bronx.
With the New York Yankees four games under .500 and 11 games out of a wild card spot, many fans have frustratingly started looking ahead to the future. The Yankees have a very important offseason ahead, with many fans wanting big changes if this team is going to contend in 2024.
One of the biggest storylines for the 2024 season was the perceived arrival of highly-touted prospect Jasson Dominguez. The 20-year-old outfielder has been closely followed since he signed with the Yankees as an international free agent in 2019. As one of the top prospects in the entire sport, there is hope that Dominguez can help lead a turnaround in 2024.
Fans are not going to have to wait for the 2024 season to see Dominguez in the pinstripes, though. After days of speculation, the Yankees appear to be pulling the trigger after all. Dominguez will join the team when the roster expands to 28 players, making his MLB debut against the Houston Astros.
Yankees call up Jasson Dominguez to make his MLB debut against Astros
Dominguez's arrival might be coming sooner than expected but there is no denying that it is deserved. Despite the spotlight being so bright on Dominguez, the switch-hitting outfielder has produced at a high level in the minors this season.
Oh yeah, and here comes Austin Wells! The Yankees' No. 8 prospect, as expected, will join Dominguez when rosters expand.
Finally, things are getting exciting.
Dominguez's tenure in AA was up and down as he ultimately finished with 15 home runs, 37 stolen bases and a .781 OPS in 109 games. He then got the call to AAA and hit the ground running. In eight games with the RailRiders, Dominguez has posted a 1.124 OPS with 10 RBIs. That was obviously good enough to earn him the call to the show.
This gives Yankees fans something to monitor and actually be interested in over the last month of the season. It has been a pretty disappointing year in the Bronx that has left an ugly aftertaste for every diehard fan. Dominguez is exactly the kind of jolt this team and the fanbase needs, even if it won't result in a postseason berth.
The hope is that Dominguez can shake off any nerves in this initial stint in the bigs so that he can enter the 2024 season with more composure. It might not save the 2023 season, but calling up Dominguez now could ultimately have a big impact on the 2024 season.
Dominguez will certainly be tested early as well, as the first three starting pitchers he will face are Justin Verlander, Hunter Brown and Cristian Javier.
