AL Rookie of the Year Odds: Anthony Volpe's odds jump after making Opening Day roster
The Yankees' No. 1 prospect, shortstop Anthony Volpe, has officially made the Yankees' opening day roster after a dominant spring in which he hit .314 with three homers, five RBI, and five stolen bases.
After spending his childhood idolizing Derek Jeter, Volpe now hopes to be a franchise cornerstone in his hero's mold and carry his hot numbers into the regular season.
While some questioned whether Volpe was ready to start taking major league at-bats without much Triple-A experience, New York believes he's prepared and his Rookie of the Year odds are jumping accordingly.
2023 American League Rookie of the Year Odds
Volpe currently has the third-best odds in the American League at +650, and only the Orioles' Gunnar Henderson and Boston's Masataka Yoshida have better odds.
New York should be one of the AL's best teams once again, so Volpe has an opportunity to immediately contribute to a World Series contender. The 21-year-old is the Yankees' youngest opening day starter since Volpe's idol, Jeter, back in 1996.
With plus-power, speed, and excellent defense, Volpe projects to be the Yankees' Opening Day starter, and will have plenty of opportunities to get on base in a loaded lineup led by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
At this point, I expect Volpe's odds to only get shorter. If you want to bet on the Yankees' rookie to take home the Rookie of the Year award, act quickly before more money pours in on the youngster.
