The Yankees and Twins start a weekend series in the Bronx, New York on Thursday night.
New York is dealing with some injuries to the pitching rotation and will lean on the likes of Jhony Brito to hold the back of the starting pitching staff together. The rookie dazzled in his first two starts, but will face another budding star in Joe Ryan.
Who has the edge in the first meeting of the series? Here are the odds and our best bet:
Twins vs. Yankees odds, run line and total
Twins vs. Yankees prediction and pick
Brito has been excellent starting the year with the big league club, and I expect him to continue to roll against a depleted Twins roster. Minnesota is dealing with injuries to the likes of Carlos Correra, Max Kepler, Joey Gallo in addition to Byron Buxton and Kyle Farmer, who got banged up on Wednesday afternoon.
Correa is set to warm up Thursday afternoon and should be good to go, but the state of the batting lineup isn't great heading to Yankee Stadium against Brito, who has only allowed one earned run in two starts spanning 10 innings.
Brito should be in line for a strong outing, but we must acknowledge Ryan, who was an American League Rookie of the Year candidate, is an emerging star. He has allowed two home runs in two starts, but he has showcased excellent command (16 strikeouts and three walks) and has pitched six innings each time.
Ultimately, given the state of the Twins roster, coupled with the elite talent that is Ryan, I'll go with the under as my best bet.
