Nationals vs. Yankees prediction and odds for Thursday, Aug. 24 (Bet the UNDER)

The Yankees and Nationals could play a low-scoring game on Thursday afternoon.

The New York Yankees and Washington Nationals finish up their three-game series on Thursday with a matinee matchup in the Bronx.

New York snapped a nine-game losing streak on Wednesday night behind three home runs from superstar Aaron Judge. It was a feel-good win for the Yankees, but it’s not going to change the team’s fate in the playoff race. New York enters this game at four games below .500 and 9.5 back of the final Wild Card spot in the AL.

Meanwhile, the Nationals have played some good baseball of late, winning seven of their last 10 games.

,They’ll have lefty Patrick Corbin (8-11, 4.71 ERA), on the mound in this game. The Yankees will be going with a bullpen game, starting with Michael King (3-5, 3.26 ERA) as the opener.

King allowed three runs in his last outing against Boston on Aug. 20, and he gave up two runs in his last run as an opener. Despite that, he’s been one of New York’s most effective pitchers all season.

Can he bounce back in this spot?

Well, whether you believe in the Yankees or not, there is a great way to guarantee a win in this game. All you need to do is sign up for FanDuel Sportsbook with the link below and wager $5 on this Yankees-Nationals matchup to receive $200 in bonus bets! That’s a pretty great offer, and I’m here to give you a winning bet to place as well on this game:

The Yankees’ offense came alive on Wednesday night, but it was a rare occurrence for this month.

New York has scored more than three runs in a game just twice since Aug. 14 and only seven times all month. That’s led to the Yankees ranking 29th in Major League Baseball in OPS over the last 15 days of action.

Not great.

Normally, Corbin would be a pitcher that I’d recommend to fade, but he’s actually pitched well in the month of August.

In three starts this month, Corbin has allowed just five runs (four earned) across 17.1 innings of work. He’s also given up just nine hits over that stretch.

I’m not sold on this Yankees team taking advantage of the lefty, even though he’s struggled in recent seasons – including this one.

That brings me to a play on the UNDER, which could be a great bet if King can shake off a couple of rough outings. Prior to his last appearance as an opener (three outings ago), King had a 2.88 ERA. He’s given up five runs in his last three appearances, but the body of work this season is hard to disagree with.

Plus, King has the best bullpen in baseball (3.20 ERA) backing him up on Thursday.

Washington is 12th in the league in OPS over the last 15 days, but the team was shut down by a struggling Luis Severino last night.

I don’t see this game clearing 8.5 combined runs.
