Gerrit Cole had one of the best Opening Days amongst all starting pitchers on Thursday, pitching six scoreless innings while striking out 11. As impressive as that performance was, I think it may be just as much of a sign of the Giants' offensive woes than Cole's strong stuff.

San Francisco recorded just four hits all game and failed to score a single run.

On Saturday, the Giants will face Clarke Schmidt who had a strong 2023 campaign. He recorded a 3.12 ERA across 57.2 innings, but only got three starts. This is a great matchup for his first start this season, and I think he'll get started off one the right foot.

Even if you give Alex Cobb the pitching advantage, the Yankees' bats compared to those of the Giants are enough for me to back San Francisco in this showdown.
