For the second night in a row, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone got testy with the umpiring crew. But Wednesday didn't turn out in his favor. He earned his seventh ejection of the season after calling out home plate umpire Lance Barrett.

Boone rightfully took exception to Oswald Peraza falling behind in the count on a clear ball thrown by Toronto Blue Jays ace Kevin Gausman. The batter prior, Oswaldo Cabrera, similarly fell behind in the count with Barrett calling a low ball a strike, and Boone had some words for him after that.

It happened the inning prior, too, when Barrett made a questionable call after he rung up DJ LeMahieu on a full count with a called strike three just outside the zone. (Let it be known Barrett helped the Yankees in the third inning by gifting Michael King a strikeout with a ball beneath the zone.) Boone's patience has clearly been tested after just two innings but there was no sense for him to hold back.

The Yankees season is over. His time as Yankees manager might soon be over. And he's best at backing his guys by letting the umps hear it. Why not let it rip?

Boone was ejected for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout, and after getting sent to the showers, he confronted Barrett and dropped a hilarious line to put the ump in his place before he relinquished his duties to bench coach Carlos Mendoza.

Cherish it. It could be the last Boone ejection of the 2023 season. It could be the last Boone ejection in pinstripes. After all this team has been through over the last 14 months, Boone's job has suffered as a result, whether he was the direct issue or not. He might be feeling the heat. He might be feeling disillusioned. He might be feeling like he's operating on borrowed time.

Nonetheless, the Yankees can't hit. They can't really play defense. They are subpar in so many ways. He doesn't exactly have the most to work with. At the very least, he's still engaged. He's still standing up for his players. He's still working his hardest to help the development of the prospects the Yankees promoted over the last month.

Boone might be a players' manager to a fault, but that style has given us golden moments like this. And whenever the Yankees are embarrassing you as a fan with their performance, sometimes Boone is there to pick you back up with an epic gum toss or a few f-bombs.

Yes, we're kind of feeling a bit nostalgic about Boonie because everything feels like it might be coming to an end once the offseason arrives. We don't know for sure, but if it does, we'll have this to accurately remember his acts of savagery.
