New Mets acquisition already starting laughable beef with Yankees for no reason

Huh?

On Saturday, the Mets hosted their version of "fan fest" called "Amazin' Day" but ... would you look at that? No Juan Soto! His flight from the Dominican Republic got canceled and he couldn't make it alongside two other teammates. At least Yankees fans dodged whatever would've resulted from Soto's presence at the event.

But they couldn't avoid everything, even the most unexpected savagery. For years, the Mets have made it part of their identity to trash talk the Yankees completely unprovoked. Their fans love the antagonization. Meanwhile, Yankees fans just look around the room confused.

The lone advantage the Mets have held over the Yankees in the modern era was that they appeared in a World Series more recently, with their 2015 run that ended in a loss to the Royals. The Yankees, until 2024, hadn't appeared in a Fall Classic since 2009. But now that's over. By basic logic, the Yankees are back on top (of what, though?), and the Mets don't have the advantage unless you want to call stealing Soto and adding him to an incomplete roster a momentous shift in the balance of powers (it's not).

Who was added alongside Soto? Sean Manaea and Jesse Winker were re-signed. Clay Holmes, Frankie Montas, Jose Siri and AJ Minter were the other notable additions. While the Yankees may have lost Soto, they added Max Fried, Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt, Devin Williams and others. And they're certainly not using Tier C additions to throw shade at the Mets.

Minter, who joined the Mets a few days ago, was at Amazin' Day and spoke about his decision to sign in Queens despite spending his career as a Brave. In his soliloquy, he slipped in a shot at Yankees fans, which would be the equivalent of Mark Leiter Jr. deciding to start beef with the Mets.

And the crowd goes wild! All six of them! Of course, none of this would've mattered really if it were clear Minter was making a joke for the sake of getting a rise out of Yankees fans. That wasn't the case at all! It wasn't a Luis Severino "you only have two good hitters situation."

After Minter said what he said, he backed it up with ... no evidence at all. Just blabbering nonsense about how Mets fans are better than Yankees fans.

Those "true" die-hard Mets fans, who banded together to finish 17th in attendance across the league in 2024! They only got beat out by the ... Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, Seattle Mariners and LA Angels. As for any other grievances from Minter about Yankees fans, we're unsure if his four career appearances at Yankee Stadium put a sour taste in his mouth.

Whatever the case, this is the last time we'll mention anything about Minter until Aaron Judge or Giancarlo Stanton take him 450 feet deep when the two teams meet May 16-18.
