While some folks out in Queens have a little bit of free time on their hands, the New York Yankees have been a little busy. The Yankees just finished vanquishing their arch-rival, the Boston Red Sox, and have now turned their attention to the ALDS matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays. Meanwhile, their New York City neighbors, the Mets, are busy planning golf outings and exotic getaways.
Those vacations are much-needed, as they desperately need some time away their clear their heads after what went down in 2025.
Big expectations in Flushing gave way to big disappointments, as the Mets collapsed, falling from first place in the NL East on August 2 to 13 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies and out of the playoff picture by September 28.
When they get back from their soul-searching voyages, ESPN Radio Host and Yankees play-by-play man Michael Kay has a message for them and their fans.
Yankees announcer Michael Kay sends a harsh message to Mets fans
Mets fans gleefully boasted that the Yankees were now the "little brother" in New York to anyone who would listen after their club snatched Juan Soto out from the Yankees' clutches with a little help of $765 million from Steve Cohen's pockets.
Throughout the season, they'd take advantage of any Yankee misstep to break out these taunts again, and apparently were quick to slide into Michael Kay's DMs with their taunts on a regular basis, much to his annoyance.
When Soto made his first trip back to Yankee Stadium back in May, one of the major storylines to emerge, aside from the incessant shower of boos the Bleacher Creatures rained down on his head, was just how unhappy he seemed in his new digs. Rumors swirled that he regretted his decision, as the only time he was seen cracking a smile was while chatting with his former Yankees teammates.
While Soto turned in another stellar season, headlined by career highs in homers (41) and stolen bases (38!), it wasn't enough to lift the Mets to an invitation to the October dance. With that in mind, Kay took the opportunity to absolutely destroy Mets fans.
"Who's laughing now?" Kay asked, referring to Mets fans' reactions to the Yankees losing Soto and the roasting he took from them every time Soto had a big moment following the "unhappiness" rumors.
"You can't help yourself, can you? And the baseball gods frown down upon that arrogance and that nastiness," Kay chided.
Among the other barbs he hurled, he rhetorically asked whether or not Soto would be happier if he were still alive in the playoffs with the Yankees rather than reflecting on a season that went awry.
And it's true. The Yankees turned that Juan Soto money into Max Fried, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt, who have all been contributors to their success. The Mets, meanwhile, were exposed as a top-heavy team whose lack of depth was their undoing.
Kay reminded Mets fans that until they actually win something with Juan Soto, they'll forever be the little brothers. Soto is, of course, an outstanding player, but that alone isn't enough to guarantee success.
Come close, Mets fans. Michael Kay's here to give your medicine, and you better bet it's bitter. Even more so should the Yankees come away with No. 28 without Soto in tow.
