Jose Altuve should be roasted like Yankees' Jasson Dominguez after left field gaffe

Playing left field is hard in the bright shining n' baking Florida sun. It's also difficult to adjust to the conditions, play the wall, and go max effort at a new position during games that don't technically matter. Nobody wants to see Yankees left fielder Jasson Dominguez make careless errors — especially after Alex Verdugo blocked his "lane" last season — but the reaction has been two or three levels too vitriolic so far this spring.

And, by the same token, if every sports media account and budding creator wants to get their Yankees hatred clicks off Dominguez struggling to track a fly ball at the wall, then where's that same energy for Jose Altuve?

The Astros moved Altuve to left field in what appeared to be a last-ditch Alex Bregman pitch, but actually ended up being ... no reason whatsoever? He's simply ... out there now?

And, during his time on the outfield grass, he's made it clear he hasn't exactly mastered the angles yet, either. Take Thursday's game against the Cardinals, for example, when he reached the wall and hopped as the ball fell safely to the sand. Dominguez would've been mentally sent to Double-A Azkaban by half the fanbase after this one. Is everyone calling for Altuve to be benched, too? Are Astros fans riled up, or no?

To be fair, though, Dominguez has also been roasted for his offensive struggles. Surely Altuve, the veteran, has been able to shrug off his positional adjustment and has just kept raking all spr — oh, wait, he's hitting .143 in 21 at-bats. Meanwhile, Dominguez took super prospect Jackson Jobe deep in a battle of Top 100 prospects on Thursday afternoon in Lakeland. Yes, even though Dominguez gets treated by the Twitterverse like he's DJ Stewart wearing his glove backwards, he actually is an incredibly skilled prospect who remains just 22 years old.

Nobody wants to see Dominguez (or Altuve) struggle, but the boo birds had better come out and question Altuve's readiness after this one the same way they raked the Yankees' left fielder over the coals for a slow start. He's moving over from center field on the fly and prepping for Yankee Stadium's toughest outfield spot. He needs time (or Altuve needs jeers). One of the two.
