New York Yankees fans have been hoping the team brings in a former championship player to join the coaching staff, but that seems like a pipe dream at this point. The proof of this likely reality comes in the form of the latest comments from former Yankees four-time World Series champion catcher Jorge Posada, who was a member of the "Core Four."
Why Jorge Posada won't be coming back to the Yankees
Posada joined Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman on The New York Post's "The Show" podcast and made it clear why he's unlikely to rejoin the Yankees anytime soon.
“It’s gotta be the right — I mean, I could, but I don’t think they want me there to tell you the truth,” Posada told "The Show."
“I don’t feel welcome when I go there, you know? Even in spring training, I don’t feel like — I’m just like, I don’t know, like, I don’t feel welcome. I don’t feel like they want me there, so I don’t go.”

Posada, whose No. 20 was retired by the Yankees in 2015, explained how it would bring back poor memories given how his final season in pinstripes played out. In 2011, Posada was replaced as the starting catcher of the Yankees by Russell Martin and had public disputes with the team over his playing time.
“I don’t know what happened. I’d rather just move forward,” Posada said. “My last season of my career was a really tough one when it comes to handling everything in my part and also the Yankees toward Jorge Posada. So, it’s tough to go back and feel that again.”
CC Sabathia blasted Yankees for no longer setting the standard
Following the Yankees' ALDS exit, CC Sabathia criticized the organization for not having their former players around the team anymore. Based on Posada's comments, what Sabathia previously said has been reinforced.
"It was like there's a standard that's set here, and we didn't meet that standard. No disrespect, but they don't know what that standard is. You know why? Because there's nobody in there that keeping that standard. Once [Brett Gardner] Gardy left, it's been a wrap. When I first came, it was Ron Guidry, Reggie Jackson, Mickey Rivers, Willie Randolph. It was not only the Core Four, it was those guys, too. So, you knew what the standard was because the standard was sitting in the [expletive] room right next to you," Sabathia said.
Is the "Yankee Standard" a Thing of the Past?👀

Sabathia outlined how Posada, Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera don't spend much time around the Yankees. For things to change around the team, Sabathia believes they need to lean on their former franchise legends.
Despite not winning a World Series since 2009, the Yankees are bringing back both GM Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone in 2027. The Yankees are running back their leadership group, which has left certain former players astonished by the situation.
