One of the most frustrating New York Yankees losses of the 2025 season occurred on Wednesday night when they, in tandem, did not step up while getting royally screwed over by home plate umpire Brian Walsh (who, of course, is a Facebook user and Red Sox/Dodgers fan?). Walsh's decision to immediately change the strike zone in the seventh inning flipped the game on its head, and it caused the Yankees to further melt down in their 8-7 defeat at the hands of the Houston Astros.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. quickly became the center of the controversy, even after Devin Williams, Camilo Doval and Aaron Boone did their best to steal the leading role. Chisholm was victimized on the final strike of the game, when Walsh rung him up on a ball that was so clearly off the plate it prompted the Yankees' broadcast to wonder what in the world they had just witnessed.
Chisholm dropped his bat and immediately started jawing at Walsh. The game was over. He had nothing to lose. Let the loser hear it. Walsh missed 21 calls on the night and 15 went against the Yankees, according to Umpire Auditor. Not only that, but Walsh baited Boone into an ejection by staring him down on the way back to the dugout after Williams was removed from the game. Not only that, but it's important to note Walsh has sucked eggs all year, and we have examples here and there to prove it.
Umpires make mistakes, sure. We get it. It's human error, the very element of the game that fans have grown to love ... but only to an extent. When umpires are allowed to run free, tilt the scales of games drastically, and make it all about themselves, that's when the fans and players grow irate. Walsh's performance and unprofessional behavior on Wednesday should be subject to punishment, but it won't be. That's MLB for ya.
In short, we truly hope Jazz made this man feel small and insignificant. That sounds harsh, but there's perhaps been no bigger ump show this season than the one Walsh put on last night. He missed calls. Sometimes, he didn't know what calls he was making! He ejected Williams the second he opened his mouth, and he was dying to do the same with Boone (and got his wish).

Jazz Chisholm Jr. had every right to blast fans and umpire Brian Walsh after Yankees' loss to Astros
So for anybody out there coming at Chisholm for his behavior? Go talk to a wall. If one of the best players on your team was made an example of by an absolute clown, you'd be supporting any and all outbursts. Let's not pretend we have standards when situations like this get completely out of control.
Not only was Chisholm's outburst acceptable (and quite frankly warranted!), his NSFW response to a fan after the game was also a work of art. The Twitter user has since made his account private because he couldn't handle the heat, of course. That's how it always goes. Losers upon losers trash talking from a computer and then shelling up the moment the spotlight is put on them.
Even funnier was the fact Jazz raced to his phone after the game, found the tweet in question, and immediately replied in a manner that would immediately stir everybody up. You have to love it.

Appropriate or not, the Yankees need this type of behavior in doses on this roster. Far too often, opposing teams walk all over them. Far too often, umpires try to make an example out of them (we've seen Boone baited into plenty of ejections and heated moments over the years). This is what every hater lives for.
Jazz flipped it back on everybody else in a move that should be studied/admired/praised/applauded. Stop pretending everything needs to be appropriate and buttoned up. The Yankees have not had a fiery personality like this in quite some time. Jazz backs up his trash talk with his play, and unleashes his fury at the absolute correct times. This was one of them. Hopefully it sparks the Yankees on Thursday and forces Walsh (and Twitter user "Damon") into a reclusive state.
