Jasson Dominguez's response to being with Yankees for World Series run is wholesome

There's probably a consensus among New York Yankees fans that they wanted to see more out of Jasson Dominguez in 2024. Injuries delayed his debut, then the front office partook in some nonsense delaying his eventual promotion. When rosters expanded on Sept. 1, the Yankees said there was no room for him. About a week later, there was all of a sudden a path to regular playing time.

Because of that late promotion (combined with a position switch as the Yankees played him mostly in left field), Dominguez never really caught on. He had barely three weeks to make an impression, and his defensive gaffes made it nearly impossible to start him over Alex Verdugo once the postseason arrived.

As a result, Dominguez has been on the ALDS and ALCS rosters, but he hasn''t contributed whatsoever outside of two pinch-running appearances. Think Derek Jeter in 1995. He was around the team for their ALDS matchup against the Seattle Mariners, but didn't play. Perhaps that could be the alternative approach the Yankees have for Dominguez. Get him used to the big stage and make sure he's part of the run with teammates he'll hopefully be spending years alongside.

It remains to be seen if the strategy will work, but we at least have proof of Dominguez enjoying the ride, which is all you can really ask for from somebody who should be frustrated after what he did for the team for eight days in September of last year.

When asked about being with the Yankees for their World Series run at such a young age (Dominguez is still only 21!), the organization's top prospect had the best response an up-and-comer could have.

Genuinely excited. You can see it in his face and in the tone of his voice. This is quite literally a once-in-a-career occurrence, especially when you take into account the Yankees just won their first AL Pennant in 15 years. And that's the most successful organization in the history of the sport! Everyone loves to cite the dynasty years, but runs like that are extremely rare, even for the best of the best.

Dominguez has limited big-league experience at just 26 games, and definitely deserved more of a shake in 2024, given the time he's logged in the minor leagues, coupled with Verdugo's regular-season struggles. Sadly, it just didn't line up. And fans certainly hope the Yankees won't be worse off for it down the road, considering this felt like a consequential development year for Dominguez.

The next best thing, though? Taking in the energy, stage and high-pressure environment that is a deep postseason run. If he can't offer help on the field, he should be around to achieve a greater understanding of the ultimate goal for a perennial contender.
