On Sunday morning, tons of hockey fans in the United States shifted their weekend plans and woke up early to support their squad in the gold medal game. It was Team USA vs Canada in a heated rivalry, something Yankees fans know all to well with the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.

By the end of it, the Americans emerged victorious thanks to a sudden death goal in overtime from Jack Hughes, the star center for the New Jersey Devils. It was the first time Team USA won a gold medal for hockey at the Winter Olympics since 1980, and it avenged their last two finals losses to Canada in 2002 and 2010.

For some Yankees fans, that was enough of a flex since a good portion of the fanbase supports the Devils. But all of the Bronx Bomber faithful can come together and unite against the haters. Whether everybody likes it or not, Hughes is famously a Yankees fan. An he's an American hero. Gonna be hard to criticize that for the foreseeable future, isn't it?

Back in 2019, Hughes was interviewed by NHL Network shortly after being the No. 1 overall pick, and he took the call from Yankee Stadium, where he was getting ready for New York to take on the Blue Jays.

The interviewers asked Hughes who he'd be rooting for in the game, and he clarified he'd be in the Yankees' corner, explaining that he grew up a Yankees fan because his dad is from New York. It was Hughes' first game at Yankee Stadium after growing up in Toronto and only watching the Yanks live whenever they visited the Blue Jays.

Moments after Hughes found the back of the net to make American history, the Yankees tweeted out a photo of the youngster in an interlocking NY hat taking in a game from that very same day he was interviewed on the field.

And we know he's especially a die-hard because he was seen in attendance at the Yankees-Red Sox matchup for Game 2 of the 2025 Wild Card Series. And if he's totally fine with losing a tooth and staying in the game to lift his country in dramatic fashion, you know he loves every second of the heated moments between New York and Boston.

Most of America hates the Yankees, but are now a lifelong supporter of one of the world's most famous Yankees fans. Condolences to Toronto, too. Suffering one of the most brutal World Series defeats ever, losing to Team USA in the Olympics final, and then learning of Jack Hughes' baseball fandom is a brutal trifecta over the last four months.

Be on the lookout for Hughes at Yankees games in 2026. He'll be acknowledged every time he's in attendance, and hopefully he'll be around for the biggest October moments so we can have more winning vibes at the Stadium.
