Genuinely shocking Yankees All-Star selection directly snubbed an AL East rival

Wait, huh? Cool! But huh?

New York Yankees fans showed out in the voting process, showering Aaron Judge with the most votes of any position player, paving his pathway into the American League All-Star starting lineup. They did their darndest to get a few additional names onto Aaron Boone's roster, too, sending both Paul Goldschmidt and Ben Rice into the final round of voting (though both men came up short when confronted with their superior counterparts, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ryan O'Hearn).

As it turned out, though, the conclusion of the voting process did not close the door on the Yankees' potential to upset the rest of the field (and their rivals).

Boone made it clear a few weeks back that, if he had a choice, he would've carried Goldschmidt with him to Atlanta. Instead, he'll get a different Yankees infielder, as Jazz Chisholm Jr. - who's been great, but hasn't hogged the national spotlight - found his way into the AL's list of reserves.

Chisholm Jr. will be joined by both Judge and left-hander Max Fried, and Carlos Rodón could make his way in after the dust settles on the pitching staff and the Sunday starters self-eliminate.

Out of all the players who were bypassed (by, more than likely, a vote held amongst the players and coaches throughout the AL), Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays probably has the most to be upset about. 21 bombs, .813 OPS, sparkling plays from the freshly 22-year-old ... what more does he have to do? Leave Tampa? Maybe it's "leave Tampa".

Jackson Holliday's omission has Orioles fans upset, too, but Holliday's been worth 0.7 bWAR and has a 97 OPS+. Good step forward, but ... maybe stay out of this one, Baltimore.

Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. surprisingly makes AL All-Star Game roster

Chisholm Jr., currently nursing a sore shoulder, should probably be a second baseman shortly, and might get the chance to play the position in the ASG after Brandon Lowe of the Rays hurt his side on Sunday.

Caminero might make the game anyhow, replacing his teammate, but for now, Chisholm Jr.'s selection has made his enemies salty - despite a 134 OPS+ and 15 homers in just 59 games.

You want to really make people mad? Let Jazz compete in the Home Run Derby.
