That's another series win and a 4-2 road trip for the New York Yankees. Their tight 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday afternoon has given them much-needed momentum heading into this weekend's Subway Series vs the New York Mets.
But we will say, it looked a bit bleak there! The Yankees went 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position in Tuesday night's 2-1 loss, and were 0-for-4 in such situations to start Wednesday's game until Jasson Dominguez's RBI double drove in Anthony Volpe with two outs in the top of the sixth. That cut the M's lead in half after Luis Castillo stumbled after tossing 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
An inning later, before the score ticker could even load on everyone's television, Paul Goldschmidt hit a game-tying pinch hit home run off Gabe Speier. It was an absolute rocket, and his first pinch-hit home run since 2011.
Credit to Aaron Boone there. He's now used Goldy as a pinch hitter four times and he's 1-for-2 with a home run and two walks.

Aaron Judge's clutch home run lifts Yankees to series win over Mariners
The Yankees continued the trend by scoring for a third consecutive inning in the eighth. Aaron Judge clutch'ed up against reliever Carlos Vargas and ripped a 117 MPH line drive homer over the left field wall for the 3-2 lead. He's still batting over .400, and his slugging percentage is now approaching .800.
The Mets are in big, big trouble.

But any smart Yankees fan knew the game was far from over at this point. The bullpen needed six more outs after Will Warren tossed a solid five frames with Tyler Matzek and Ian Hamilton logging the other two.
Boone called on Fernando Cruz for the eighth against the heart of the order, but the right-hander immediately got into a jam by surrendering a single and hitting a batter. Thankfully, he jammed pinch-hitter Dylan Moore and induced a double-play ball to end the inning. Glorious.

Luke Weaver came in for the 1-2-3 save as he handled the bottom of the M's lineup. With the day off Thursday, it will be crucial for Weaver and Cruz to get rest before the weekend slate against the Mets. Weaver was used for two innings on Tuesday and Cruz just pitched on back-to-back days for only the second time this year.
The Yankees shook off an early error that ended up costing them dearly. Warren was charged with two unearned runs after a miscommunication at first base between the right-hander and Ben Rice in the third inning. Somehow, DJ LeMahieu was charged with a throwing error in his return, but he shook that off and logged his first hit since Sept. 3, 2024 later on. How about that?
