Former Yankees OF pitches wild Jasson Dominguez trade that could change dynamic

As currently constructed, the New York Yankees roster seems pretty damned good after an AL pennant and execrable World Series loss — or, at least, it looks as good as it could knowing that Juan Soto was very recently here.

Filling a Soto-sized hole seems like an impossibility, but credit to the Yankees: they added flexibility and versatility throughout the roster, avoided long-term albatrosses in places where they can't be buried, and saved a good deal of money for next winter's arrivals, like Kyle Tucker. Still, it would be fantastic if, in addition to all of those things, Jasson Dominguez finally broke out after his Sept. 2023 show and did at least a passable Soto impression.

Dominguez is more athletic than Soto; that's a bonus. He may not be a viable left fielder on Day 1, but ... Soto wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire in right, either, was he? He's got light-tower power. He's got patience. He adds speed. Yeah, the Yankees could have something here if a top-10-percentile outcome manifests itself this season.

Of course ... there's always the alternate route. Dominguez couldn't stay healthy last season, and struggled to supplant Alex Verdugo at the tail end of the year when given the chance. Everyone across the league knows how tantalizing he could be/what his peak might look like. What they don't know right now is whether it will ever arrive.

That could lead to the Yankees exploring the trade market with their most valuable theoretical asset, and given the Cleveland Guardians' deep, abiding love for avoiding expensive arbitration years (Josh Naylor trade in his walk year, Andrés Giménez dealt mid-extension, etc) ... would they be willing to explore Steven Kwan in trade talks, with three years of team control remaining? That's what Cameron Maybin would like to know.

Should Yankees explore Jasson Dominguez-Steven Kwan trade?

It's hard to imagine a better fit on this current roster (yes, yes, we know, outside of Juan Soto) then an unbelievable and versatile leadoff man, who can continually set 'em up for Judge to knock 'em down.

Con: The Guardians are always hurting for outfield help, and Kwan's as rock-solid stable a force as their currently is in the game, in his particular role.

Pro: The Guardians never seem to end up with enough power to compete with the AL's best. Is swapping Kwan's rising price for the tantalizing potential of 35-40 homers from center field worth the risk of losing your elite table-setter?

Odds are the Guardians are the ones who say no here. But ... a 126 OPS+, a .368 OBP, and a playoff-tested agitation mentality ... Kwan would be an unbelievable Yankee.
