Former GM Jim Bowden's hilarious Jazz Chisholm Jr. free agency destinations make it clear he's gone

Warm weather only?

Jazz Chisholm Jr. has openly admitted that he's bothered by cold weather, which has always made a long stint with the New York Yankees feel unlikely for the Bahamian infielder. Every season in the Bronx, the games begin to really matter just as the temperature begins to drop -- a poor fit for Chisholm, one would deduce.

Chisholm made a name for himself playing in the warm clime of Miami for the Marlins organization. On the other hand, let's not act like Chisholm is rendered completely ineffective in colder regions. He did have a productive season-and-a-half with the Yankees leading up to 2026, which included a career-peaking 30-30 season in 2025 in the Bronx.

Jazz Chisholm's poor fit with Yankees is about more than cold weather

Chisholm's statistical cliff dive in 2026 can't be attributed to the season being bookended by frigid gusts and turtleneck requirements. Chisholm couldn't get his offense going in any temperature this year. When you add in his defensive errors in key moments (and his innate ability to tick off Aaron Boone), Chisholm's exit from the Yanks has felt like a sure thing for weeks.

And that's before any discussion of financials, which also make a Yankees reunion highly unlikely. Chisholm's down year means he won't approach the $350 million payday he was hoping for, but he's obviously still looking to cash in, and Brian Cashman's surely not going to be the GM to oblige.

Speaking of GMs, former MLB GM Jim Bowden just weighed in on Chisholm's potential destinations, and the three "best fits" that Bowden envisioned for Chisholm are hilariously (and somewhat logically) all warm-weather teams.

From a Yankees fan perspective, the first thing that jumps out about these three franchises is that none of them are remotely close to New York City. It's borderline hilarious that Bowden threw the Athletics in there for Chisholm, by the way. It's as if to say that anywhere warm should be seen as appealing to Chisholm, even if nothing is appealing from a baseball fit standpoint or even a competitive standpoint. Going from the game's most historic franchise to the irrelevant A's? Sounds awesome!

Seriously, though, Chisholm grew up a Yankees fan and loves the tradition of the organization, even if he's added some unsavory elements to that tradition, like eating a lollipop while playing second base. Chisholm's said he also likes the high-profile market of New York. And despite his 2026 struggles, we can all see that Chisholm isn't a guy who hides from the spotlight. He relishes it, which is why he'd probably hate playing for a tiny-market club (even if it was warm there).

At any rate, Chisholm's free agency is sure to be an interesting storyline to follow this winter. His time with the Yankees is in the past, and despite the up-and-down performance, it was always entertaining.
