Every former Yankees player who was traded at the 2025 deadline

How many can there be?!

That was the most action-packed trade deadline Major League Baseball has experienced in quite some time. It actually might be the most entertaining one since the playoff field was expanded. Did we finally crack the code?!

It also might've been the New York Yankees' best performance since 2017, when Brian Cashman transformed a fringe Wild Card roster into a legitimate contender. Did he do it again, this time? Time will tell. But he really addressed everything the team needed. Bravo.

In a way, though, Yankees fans were reminded of some painful memories. A lot of former Yankees were traded at this year's deadline, and many of them are among the most forgettable in recent years. To be exact, by our count, 10 former Bombers changed teams on Thursday. Hard to believe that's even possible.

Every former Yankees player who was traded at the 2025 deadline

JP Sears

Sears was sent to the Padres in the Mason Miller blockbuster trade with the Athletics. The Yankees acquired Sears from the Mariners back in 2017 and he eventually made his MLB debut in 2022 ... only to be traded to the A's for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino. Like we said, bad memories.

Harrison Bader

Bader escaped the horrid situation in Minnesota when the Twins traded him to the contending Phillies. The veteran has been enjoying a resurgent season, but outside of his 2022 playoff performance with the Yankees, the rest of his tenure in New York was ugly. And the way he arrived (in a walking boot for starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery!) was arguably worse. He was placed on waivers in 2023 — that's how bad it got. Then he lied about always wanting to be a Met after landing in Queens for the 2024 season.

Zack Littell

Didn't know Zack Littell was a Yankee? Time to brush up on your history! The right-hander was in the organization for the 2017 season, but got shipped off to the Twins. He's bounced around the league a ton since debuting in 2018 and was recently carving up the Yanks as a member of the Rays. At this year's deadline, Tampa traded him to the Reds, who were in need of some rotation insurance. Wish we got him instead.

Dietrich Enns

Another guy who was moved in 2017, Enns wa a former draft pick and top prospect of the Yankees. This year, he landed a deal with the Detroit Tigers, but quickly flamed out after a few years away from MLB. He was DFA'd at this year's trade deadline and then traded to the Orioles. He's back in the AL East, baby.

Caleb Ferguson

One of the Yankees' supposed helpful additions of the offsason prior to the 2024 campaign featured Caleb Ferguson in a trade with the Dodgers. Spoiler alert: it was not. The left-hander logged a 5.13 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 42 games before the Yankees dumped him on the Astros. The next offseason, he signed with the Pirates, and they just traded him to the Mariners, who were in need of bullpen help. Godspeed, Seattle.

Miguel Andújar

What?! He's still playing?! He sure is, with a collection of other former dreaded Yankees on the Athletics. But the A's just shipped him to the Reds on deadline day to help with Cincy's position player depth issue as injuries pile up. Believe it or not, Andújar is having a solid season, hitting .298 with a .765 OPS in 60 games. We'll never forget the Yankees letting him linger around from 2020-2022, during which he accrued -0.7 WAR in 93 games.

Jordan Montgomery

Montgomery is still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, but was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in a salary dump deal. The D-backs sent $5 million to the Brew Crew, who will pay $2 million toward the rest of Monty's contract on top of the addition of reliever Shelby Miller. Truthfully, not a bad swap for either side. Montgomery got his revenge on the Yankees for that blindside Bader trade, but ever since the conclusion of the 2023 season it's been rough for the left-hander.

Nestor Cortes

Another lefty traded by the Yankees, Cortes was shipped out this past offseason in the Devin Williams deal. At this year's deadline, no longer of use to the surging Brewers, Milwaukee traded him to the San Diego Padres, who continue to collect former Yankees players en masse. Cortes was dealing with a flexor strain and has missed most of the year, but he's rehabbing and looking good at Triple-A. Guess who went back to the Brewers in this one?

Brandon Lockridge

A former Yankees top prospect, Lockridge was sent to San Diego last trade deadline in the horrible Enyel De Los Santos deal. He'll probably inexplicably find his groove with the Brew Crew and add to more Yankees pain with what Caleb Durbin's doing over there. We will say, though, Lockridge has not made the most of his opportunity thus far, hitting .210 with a .528 OPS in 59 games.

Ben Rortvedt

And finally, we have Rortvedt, who was moved in the bizarre Dodger-Reds-Rays Zack Littell trade. Rortvedt was sent to the Dodgers with pitchers Adam Serwinowski and Paul Gervase. The Rays got catcher Hunter Feduccia and pitcher Brian Van Belle. Rortvedt, who was a Yankee from the Josh Donaldson trade, was shipped to the Rays last offseason and dominated in the first half of 2024 but then fell off. The Dodgers will hope to get some usage out of him. Tampa clearly ran out.
