Cam Schlittler's comments after Yankees sweep send Red Sox fans into a spiral

It's quite possible he has traumatized an entire fanbase.

If any sociologists awaiting a grant wanted to get ahead of their future studies, we would like to offer up the entire city of Boston and the Red Sox fanbase as a test group to further our country's education. New York Yankees starter Cam Schlittler, a singular man, has affected these people so greatly that it needs to be examined.

The Yankees swept the Red Sox in Boston on Thursday night (the first time since 2021) and Schlittler dealt the final blow, delivering eight innings in another dominant performance. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk.

This win was extra special because of all the trash talk Sox fans were hurling at Schlittler before the start of the series. After having his DMs spammed with death threats from Boston fans over the last 10 months and having his mother dragged into the toxic discourse, Schlittler thought his first career start at Fenway would feature a hostile environment. Not exactly crazy to think after the online behavior he experienced.

And when he said that, Sox fans flew off the handle, claiming Schlittler was a "cornball" and a "loser" for even suggesting such a thing (even though everybody knows how fans treated Gerrit Cole before the 2021 AL Wild Card Game). Sox fans continue to claim Schlittler can't stop commenting about the Red Sox because he's upset he's not getting support from where he grew up. Yes, we're sure Schlittler was hell bent on getting support from Massachusetts/Boston after becoming a Yankee. That's usually how it works.

In the end, the environment wasn't hostile (have Red Sox fans gone soft?) and Schlittler looked as comfortable as ever despite not having his best stuff. Sox fans tried their best, but, no, Payton Tolle's six innings and 11 strikeouts ended up being a footnote on the evening. Sorry, guys.

After the game, Schlittler offered his comments on Fenway, and yet another harmless incident of him opening his mouth has sent Sox fans into a collective mental breakdown.

“You underestimate how many good people show up to the ballpark,” Schlittler said, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “It was great. For the most part, they were really respectful, and it seemed like there were a lot of Yankee fans here.”

And. Here. We. Go.

Red Sox fans officially have a new daddy in Yankees star Cam Schlittler

We're not ignorant to some heinous online behavior from Yankees fans. We know it exists. We know it exists among every fanbase. But man, Sox fans are a special kind of toxic and delusional. Don't these people realize it's just better to go radio silent sometimes?

Staying up past your bedtime, sweating out every tweet that comes across the timeline, waiting to get trolled just to issue a cringey, try-hard response.

Oh ... so now players are only special if they get harassed at Fenway? So Sox fans do harass players at their home ballpark? Is that what we're hearing?

The jab about there being a lot of Yankees fans was another funny one, and it was true. Every time to the broadcast cut to the stands, there were pinstripe/gray jerseys in the crowd. You could hear the roars when the Yankees put runs on the board and when Schlittler continued to sit down Sox hitter after Sox hitter.

We guess Schlittler was wrong. He assumed he'd be entering a hostile environment filled with Boston hardos only to be met by a bunch of online crybabies and fans of his own team. Silly him! He thought there was more vitriol to the rivalry.

Red Sox fans are so aimless in their frustration and with their complaints that they don't even know what they're saying anymore. It was only a few months ago Breslow was "cooking" all offseason long ... and now they want him gone. It was only weeks ago that they were about to own the Yankees with the Caleb Durbin trade ... until Durbin apparently turned into the worst player in MLB and Sox fans want him off their team. Trading Rafael Devers was the worst move ever ... then it was genius ... then it was going to look even better when Alex Bregman was re-signed ... and then ...

Like we said, every sociology major at the 467 Boston colleges/universities should get out their notebooks right now. They have the chance to study generational trauma for the low cost of simply logging onto social media.
