Brian Cashman for three at the buzzer ... it's good! The New York Yankees capped off the 2025 trade deadline by acquiring a high-leverage reliever after taking advantage of the San Francisco Giants' fire sale.

At 5:59 p.m. ET, it was reported closer Camilo Doval was traded to the Yanks. The former All-Star closer has experienced some regression over the last couple years, but recently found his footing again and looks like a perfect fit for this struggling Yankees bullpen.

The flamethrowing right-hander is under club control through 2027 and has some really good peripheral metrics. In fact, Yankees fans were eyeing him last year when he had completely tanked his value with a horrible 2024 campaign.

This year, Doval has rebounded to record a 3.09 ERA, 3.18 FIP and 1.20 WHIP with 50 strikeouts and 15 saves across 46 2/3 innings. With the Giants drastically falling out of contention in recent weeks, Buster Posey decided to wave the white flag.

Cashman capitalized, and Doval will now join the back end of the bullpen with Devin Williams, David Bednar and Luke Weaver. Oh yeah, and Jake Bird, we guess.

The Yankees might not have acquired starting pitching at this year's deadline, but they did get the help they needed elsewhere. They beefed up the bullpen, improved their third base situation (Ryan McMahon), added to their depth (Amed Rosario, Jose Caballero, Austin Slater), and cleared out some roster fodder (Oswald Peraza, JC Escarra, Carlos Carrasco).

Bednar and Doval will help this team beyond 2025, which was part of the grand plan. This roster might not be equipped to make a run this year, but ensuring a quality roster for 2026 with Aaron Judge currently on the shelf was the next best thing to accomplish.

Assuming Matt Blake can harness Doval's nasty 98 MPH cutter, the Yankees just gave Williams and Weaver the support they needed to let loose. This bullpen now has four pitchers with the ability to close games, which will be incredibly valuable down the stretch and into October. With the 'pen no longer being top heavy, Aaron Boone will be able to better balance the usage of his guys in high-leverage outings.
