Hit Frank's music! That's a New York Yankees win on Opening Day; their fourth straight, if you can believe it. They defeated the Milwaukee Brewers in the Bronx by a score of 4-2 on Thursday before the action picks back up again on Saturday.
New York led wire to wire in this one, with Austin Wells belting a leadoff homer after Carlos Rodón's impressive 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first.
Wells became the first catcher in MLB history to hit a leadoff homer, and the Yankees rode that momentum to a narrow victory. Anthony Volpe homered in the bottom of the second and the Yanks added two more in the seventh with an Aaron Judge RBI double and Cody Bellinger sac fly.
If fans really wanted to nitpick on Day 1, Paul Goldschmidt and Jasson Dominguez did not look great, but are we really going to do that? Jazz Chisholm's defense at second base was a breath of fresh air, as was Bellinger's in center.
Meanwhile, Rodón, outside of giving up a solo homer and tripping over first base, looked sharp in his 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball. He allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Well(s) that was quick 💥

Yankees vs Brewers Opening Day: New York wins 4-2 on Austin Wells history
Everything was going according to plan until the ninth inning, of course. Aaron Boone called on Tim Hill as the first reliever out of the 'pen to escape Rodón's jam, and it worked. Then Mark Leiter Jr. and Luke Weaver were spotless through two innings and logged four strikouts.
The Yanks led 4-1 with three outs to go when former Brewer Devin Williams took the ball. But the elite right-hander had everyone on edge. He loaded the bases with nobody out on a single, double and walk. A sac fly made it a 4-2 game, and the next swing of the bat could've been disastrous.
Thirty-six pitches later, and the Yankees won the game. Williams struck out Jackson Chourio and Christian Yelich to earn his first save in pinstripes, but fans are certainly hoping they're a bit more cleaner than that as the year progresses.

We'll take it. For the most part, everything went fairly well. The bats were active, the defense was clean, and the pitching was excellent until the very end. Next time? Let's bunt with runners on first an second with nobody out late in the game, and let's not have Trent Grisham attempt another steal when we need an insurance run.
One game (and one mini-season) in the books.
