While the New York Yankees got ahead of any concerns by sending both Cam Schlittler and Luis Gil home early from the Houston series to rest up, the conditions for the rest of the roster after Thursday's win were still very much less than ideal. And the MLB schedulemakers, who seem to have dinged the Yankees at every turn this year, are to blame once again.
In case you needed an insider's take on how the Yankees' oddly scheduled flights and lack of off days are putting a behind-the-scenes strain on the season, Ashley Rodón shared a very illustrative anecdote on Friday morning.
Rodón's Yankees took home a victory (his 16th of the season) in Houston to close out the three-game set, finishing up around 11:00 PM on the east coast. After conducting postgame interviews and heading to the airport, they departed well after midnight and, apparently, arrived home at just about the same time that Ashley was starting her day and getting the kids ready for school.
Can you sleep on the plane? You'd better! Otherwise, you're bound to be extra groggy for Friday night's series opener against the Blue Jays (a game that comes after an off day for Toronto).
Just to clarify.. has ZERO to do with quality of life and everything to do with wanting to win a MF World Series. The guys don’t need to be tired. https://t.co/9GTsWlobQj

Ashley Rodón, wife of Yankees starter Carlos Rodón, is concerned about Yankees' rest schedule after Astros series (and all year long)
Whatever happened to the good, old-fashioned "getaway day" day game?
Pre-aggrieved fans have already noted that the Yankees are about to play the Red Sox in their fourth series of the year; New York doesn't have an off day before any of the four, and Boston has an off day before all of them. Who designed this dumbass schedule? Brian Walsh?
Great teams shrug off schedule constraints, unexpected hurdles, and moments of strain, but it would be nice if things were built at least a little more fairly. You'd think things would logically "all even out," but they certainly haven't seemed to ahead of several crucial AL East rivalry series this year. Schlittler and Gil got the convenient early ticket out, but nobody in the lineup did.
Hopefully, Ashley's valid concerns are considered more plainly next year by whoever continues to hook the Yankees up with suboptimal travel.
