3 key top prospects missing from Yankees' first round of minor league rosters

And 1 MLB veteran who's gone off the map.

Both the New York Yankees and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders have gotten their seasons underway. Now, it's time for the rest of the team's most elite prospects to join them in action ... except, uh ... one thing's holding them back: most of the elite prospects are at Triple-A.

Both Elmer Rodriguez and Carlos Lagrange are at the highest level of the minors. Jasson Domínguez and Spencer Jones, too. The electric Cade Winquest is on the MLB roster, he said, dripping with irony. Basically all that's left in the mid-to-low minors are some tantalizing 2025 draftees, some hidden/emerging pitching gems, and George Lombard Jr., who's back at Double-A Somerset for another go (alongside Ben Hess, so you might get lucky every fifth day).

Unfortunately for everyone involved, we've been treated to the mysterious absence of the most tantalizing 2025 draftee: top pick Dax Kilby, who's nowhere to be found.

Kilby missed Spring Breakout as well, and there's been speculation he's battling a tight hamstring. Ideally, it's no worse than that. All we know for sure is that he isn't on a minor-league roster right now, and also isn't on the 60-Day IL. Is this more or less confusing than Elmer Rodriguez's current stint on the Temporarily Inactive List?

2 other top Yankees pitching prospects join Dax Kilby in minor-league roster purgatory

Also off the map? Bryce Cunningham, the Yankees' fourth pitcher in a three-pitcher top prospect trio. We knew he was starting behind, and knowing he's allegedly "getting closer" is really all we can hope for, at this point.

And where's Mac Heuer, everyone's favorite eighth-rounder from last year's draft? He's yet to make his professional debut, but he's earned plenty of potential breakout nods. MiLB.com insists he's on the FCL roster, meaning his first action won't come in full-season ball.

A few other oddities emerged on Monday, too. Seth Brown, an offseason minor-league signee, was seemingly signed, sealed and delivered to Double-A Somerset, but wasn't on their final announcement. Did he go AWOL? Would he rather play Triple-A ball than share an outfield with Kenedy Corona? We'd love to know what's up with Thatcher Hurd and Chase Hampton's injury recoveries, too. Silence on that front.

The Yankees' thinner farm system could really use an infusion of Kilby's absurd exit velocities. The offseason narrative was that he could push for the Top 50 on most national prospect lists if his leap matched its metric prescription. Unfortunately, starting off the map entirely makes that a far less likely proposition.
