Who’s ready for New York Yankees–Tampa Bay Rays Game 162 madness with nearly everything on the line?

Nobody? Nearly nobody is ready? Got it! Us, neither!

All the Yanks had to do to render Sunday’s game nearly irrelevant, it turns out, was win on Friday night or win on Saturday. Combined with the late-night Mariners loss Friday night, they would’ve had a Wild Card spot cinched up, and would be jockeying for home field with the Red Sox on Sunday…so, you’re right, we still would’ve found a reason to be annoyed.

But now? Now?! Winless over the weekend, a four-way tie is still in play.

All we know is that the Yankees’ season will not end on Sunday. They might be playing a tiebreaker — or two! — but they will be playing again.

Sorry, but…how can you predict a Yankee win today? After the Rays made it clear in the first two games they had zero intention of laying down and making things easy? After Kevin Cash poured it on in Game 2? After Aaron Boone made gaffe after bullpen gaffe, giving Game 1 away with an extra inning of Domingo German, followed by the misuse of Michael King in Game 2? If it’s close, how can you possibly have faith in the Bombers closing this one out?
