Gerrit Cole returned to the mound for the New York Yankees on Tuesday and got the win in what ended up being a relatively easy matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. Let’s do that again, please?
On Wednesday night, the Yankees will need to capitalize yet again, because there’s no margin for error over the next eight games. The first order of business is taking care of the worst team in baseball, against whom the Yankees are just 10-7 on the year. That’s not going to cut it. And, quite frankly, it’s arguably the biggest reason the Rays are so far ahead in the division.
Tuesday night’s home run fest was an encouraging sign, but the Bombers won’t be facing Alexander Wells again. This time, they’ll face the O’s best pitcher.
That’s not an excuse to make this a nail-biter, but we know how the Yankees operate. Let’s take a look at Wednesday’s betting preview.

Yankees vs Orioles Odds Today
Per WynnBET, the Yankees are heavy favorites again, coming in at -190 on the moneyline (bet $190 to win $100). The O’s, meanwhile, are +160 on the moneyline (bet $100 to win $160) and remain at even money if you snag them with the run line and the +1.5 advantage (bet $100 to win $100). The Yankees remain the favorites on the run line as well, with the -1.5 handicap costing -120 (bet $120 to win $100).
The over/under for total runs scored is 9.5, with the over carrying a heavier price at -125 (bet $125 to win $100). The under is cheaper at -105 (bet $105 to win $100).
Yankees Pitcher Today
It’ll be Nestor Cortes (2-2, 2.70 ERA) against John Means (5-7, 3.42 ERA). Two lefties! Should be fun. Cortes faced the O’s back on Sept. 3 in his only outing against them this year, and he allowed just one run across 5.2 innings in the team’s 4-3 win. He’s been the Yankees’ most consistent starter over the last two months behind Cole.
Means, who went up against the Yanks in that same game on Sept. 3, tossed five innings of two-run ball, which has been sandwiched in between a stretch of four solid starts. The other three were quality outings against the Braves, Rays and Royals. The lefty also faced the Yanks back in April, lasting 4.2 innings and allowing just one run in a 4-3 victory for the O’s.
Yankees Starting Lineup
The red-hot Joey Gallo hits the bench against a tough lefty, just as we all predicted.
Yankees vs Orioles Prediction Today
Again, not much analysis here. The Yankees should and need to win, even though they’re facing the Orioles’ best pitcher. If there’s anyone outside of Cole you’d want here, it’d be Cortes, who’s come in during various tough spots in 2021 and bailed the Yankees out a number of times.
Expect this to start slow. The Yankees will work Means’ pitch count and he’ll be out of the game by the fifth inning. Cortes should go at least five in this one. Maybe an early home run ball will grace the Bombers again.
In the end, it should be a 6-2 victory for New York.
