Remember when it was fun to bet on the New York Yankees for almost the entire month of August? Not anymore!

The Bombers are back to the version of this team we saw from April-June. They’ve lost 7 of 10 after rattling off 13 straight victories. Never did we think we’d be so upset after arguably the most impressive run of any team this season, but here we are. That’s the 2021 Yankees for ya.

On Monday, the uninspiring play continued in the form of an 8-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, who are gaining ground in the AL Wild Card race. New York didn’t get a runner to reach second base. This one was over after Jameson Taillon surrendered two solo shots in the first inning.

Time to do it all over again on Tuesday! And here’s the betting preview for tonight’s matchup.

Yankees vs Blue Jays Odds Today

Our friends at WynnBET have the Yankees as HEAVY favorites at -225 (bet $225 to win $100), with the Jays as fairly big underdogs at +175 (bet $100 to win $175). On the run line, if you’d like a cheaper price, New York is -105 (bet $105 to win $100) if you take them -1.5 runs while Toronto is -120 (bet $120 to win $100) at +1.5 runs.

The over/under has been set at 8.5, and if you’d like the over it’ll cost you -120 (bet $120 to win $100). The under is cheaper at +100 (bet $100 to win $100).

Yankees Pitcher Today

One time. Please. It’s Gerrit Cole (14-6, 2.73 ERA) vs Steven Matz (10-7, 3.80 ERA), and by all means there’s no reason the Yankees should lose this. But we can’t rule anything out, can we?! The Yankees have won Cole’s last four outings, and his most recent against the Angels featured a 15-strikeout performance to snap the team’s four-game losing streak.

Want more good news? Cole is 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA against the Jays in three starts this year. Matz’s one start against New York back in late May, however, featured a win and 10-strikeout performance. The bats simply need to wake up. The offense has scored just 24 runs in their seven losses amid this poor run of form.

Yankees vs Blue Jays Prediction Today

If we’re going to predict one win for the Yankees in this crucial four-game set, it’ll be today. When they’ve needed Gerrit Cole to get the job done, he’s answered. And this is the most favorable pitching matchup for the Bombers with the next two days not exactly presenting the easiest of opportunities.

Let’s say the offense wakes up, gets after Matz in the first couple innings, and burns Toronto’s bullpen? That’d be cool. Let’s call it a 9-3 victory for the Bombers.
