Yankees Game Today: Yankees vs Athletics Lineup, Odds, Prediction, Pick, Pitcher, TV for Aug. 27
What a thrill. Thursday night’s 7-6 victory marked 12 straight wins for the New York Yankees and this team’s fortunes have completely flipped.
Seven weeks ago, they were 41-41. Now, they’re 75-52 and leading the AL Wild Card picture with a three-game advantage over the Boston Red Sox and only trail the Tampa Bay Rays by four games for the AL East lead.
The Bombers have three more games on deck against the pesky Athletics, and it doesn’t help they don’t particularly play well in Oakland. But did they begin to dispel that notion by avoiding the A’s furious comeback last night? The Bombers went up 6-0 before it was a tie game in the blink of an eye.
On Friday, New York will go for 13 straight, and this time manager Aaron Boone will be in the dugout (hopefully) for the duration of the game after he was ejected in the second inning on Thursday for arguing balls and strikes.
Let’s take a look at Friday’s betting preview between the two AL contenders!

Yankees Pitcher Today
It’s Gerrit Cole (12-6, 2.92 ERA) vs Sean Manaea (8-8, 3.77 ERA) in tonight’s game. This will be Cole’s third start since coming off the COVID IL. The Yankees have won his last two, during which he’s allowed just one earned run in 11.2 innings of work against the Angels and Twins. The A’s will provide a tougher test, but the right-hander should be up for the challenge with the way their offense has been struggling.
Manaea, a lefty who’s been having a rough go in August, could be exposed by a Yankees lineup that will likely be right-handed heavy. Aaron Boone said Luke Voit will likely be playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which alludes to the fact we could see Brett Gardner on the bench and Giancarlo Stanton in the outfield.

Yankees vs Athletics Prediction Today
The Yankees have won 12 straight and are sending their best pitcher to the mound. The A’s are faltering, going 2-8 in their last 10 and scoring just 33 runs over that span. What makes us think that will change against Cole, who owns a robust 3.02 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in eight career starts against Oakland?
As for Manaea, he’s only had one career start against the Bombers (and it was good) but he’s been getting knocked around this month, surrendering 17 earned runs in just 15.2 innings across his last four starts … and the Yankees’ offense is humming.
We’ll take the Bombers again. Let’s call it an 8-4 win.
