The New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves have both turned their seasons around in dramatic fashion over the last month or so and now they’ll collide for their second two-game set of the 2021 season.
General managers Brian Cashman and Alex Anthopoulos have revived their squads with some momentous moves before the trade deadline and the results have been obvious and overwhelming.
In the AL, the Yankees have climbed all the way back up to lead the Wild Card picture while the Braves have taken commanding control of the NL East, now leading the Phillies by five games. The Bombers trail the Rays by 4.5 games for the AL East lead.
Atlanta and New York enter this one on nine-game winning streaks, but their roads have been much different. The Yanks disposed of the White Sox, Angels, Red Sox and Twins while the Braves beat up on some of the league’s bottom feeders (we’ll get to that a little later). For now, though, let’s take a look at Monday’s betting preview.
What Time is the Yankees Game Today?
The Yankees and Braves will kick things off in Atlanta at 7:20 p.m. ET on Monday evening in their third matchup of the 2021 season.
What Channel is the Yankees Game on Today?
The Yankees-Braves game will air on the YES Network for those in the tri-state area and on Bally Sports South for those in the Atlanta area (as well as a number of other southern states).
Yankees vs Braves Odds Today
According to WynnBet, this is a tight one. The Braves are technically the favorite at -120 on the moneyline (bet $120 to win $100) but the Yankees will also cost you a vig at -105 (bet $105 to win $100). The odds change dramatically on the run line, however, with the Yankees at +150 (bet $100 to win $150) with the -1.5 spread while the Braves are -190 (bet $190 to win $100) with the +1.5 spread.
The run total is set at 9.5 and if you think 10 or more runs will be scored, you can snag those odds at even money (bet $100 to win $100). The under (nine runs or fewer must be scored) will cost you -125 (bet $125 to win $100).
Yankees Pitcher Today
Jordan Montgomery (4-5, 3.77 ERA) will make his second start since Aug. 1 after coming off the COVID IL and he’ll go up against Huascar Ynoa (4-2, 2.70 ERA), who will be making his second start after a three-month layoff after suffering a fractured hand. Monty’s return against the Sox and Ynoa’s return against the Marlins were both successes.
Montgomery faced this Braves team in 2020 and delivered a quality start in what ended up being a 9-6 Yankees victory. As for Ynoa, he’s never faced the Yanks, and his attractive ERA is a product of facing some pretty below-average offenses. He’s faced the Phillies (twice), Nationals (twice), Marlins (twice), Cubs (twice) and Diamondbacks in nine of his 10 outings. It’s safe to say the lefty has the edge here.
Yankees Starting Lineup
The American League Player of the Week, Luke Voit, has to sit because we’re in a National League ballpark. Normal stuff.
Yankees vs Braves Prediction Today
It’s really hard to be against either of these teams right now. They might be the two hottest in all of MLB. And we have a good pitching matchup on deck with Montgomery vs Ynoa, both of whom are getting back into action after some lengthy layoffs (Ynoa’s was much longer, however).
For as good as the Braves have been, they scored just 11 runs across their three-game sweep over the Baltimore Orioles. That kind of offensive production won’t get it done against the Bombers, especially with the way their rotation has been handling their business. Also, the Braves saw some of the league’s worst competition over the last 10 days, notching series wins over the Nationals, Marlins and O’s. They might be in for a rude awakening against one of the best offenses in the league.
But let’s call it a tight one. 6-5, Yankees.
